What to Watch on Monday: A 'Sex in the City' prequel on the CW

Bones (8pm, Fox) - Two hours of "Bones" tonight. In the first, a professional ballroom dancer is killed before her audition for a reality TV dance competition. In the second, an archaeologist with a dubious reputation is murdered soon after making an important discovery.

The Carrie Diaries (8pm, CW) - A new series that serves as a prequel to "Sex in the City," featuring 16-year-old Carrie Bradshaw (AnneSophia Robb, left) entering her junior year of high school and struggling to deal with her mother's death. Things begin to look up for her when she starts an internship in Manhattan. Based on a series of books by Candace Bushnell. Adrienne reviews.

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - Robin insists that Barney seek her father's permission to marry her before they announce their engagement.

Being Human (9pm, Syfy) - In the Season 3 opener, Aidan resurfaces to find the vampire community has changed a great deal, while Sally struggles to free herself from limbo. Also, Josh and Nora stand up to Ray, and at the same time a new threat comes looking for them in Boston.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - Michelle returns to town and gets Truly as a roommate. Meanwhile, the girls head back to school and become enamored with two talented new students.

Deception (10pm, NBC) -As Joanna tries to figure out what really happened the night Vivian died, some people point the finger at Edward. At the same time, Julian's grief over his sister's death leads to self-destructive behavior.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - A promising DJ is murdered at an album release party for a fading pop star, and the investigation takes Castle and Beckett inside the city's music industry.

What to Watch on Monday: Blake Shelton elfs around for Christmas

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - Robin contemplates one last fling with Barney and devises a scheme to entice him into an encounter.

Bones (8pm, Fox) - A psychic joins the investigation of the death of a little boy whose soul is believed to be still alive.

Rod Stewart: Merry Christmas, Baby (8pm, UNC-TV) - A holiday celebration with Rod Stewart, who duets with Michael Buble, Mary J. Blige, Cee-Lo Green and others.

Blake Shelton's No-So-Family Christmas (10pm, NBC) - It's all Blake Shelton all the time tonight on NBC. In this holiday variety special (which follows a 2-hour "The Voice"), Blake (right) performs holiday classics, new music, and comedy bits. Guest stars include Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, Jay Leno, Larry the Cable Guy and Reba McEntire.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - A man resembling Santa Claus is found dead in Central Park, and Castle and Beckett discover some unsavory things about him as they investigate his murder. Meanwhile, Castle and Beckett prepare to celebrate their first Christmas as a couple.

Hawaii Five-0 (10pm, CBS) - Max and a cute bank teller he's attracted to are put in harm's way during botched bank robbery. The investigation reveals that the thieves had unexpected motives for attempting the heist. Meanwhile, Danny protects a model from a stalker.

What to Watch on Monday: Bourdain's 'Layover' resumes in Chicago

 90210 (8pm, CW) - Navid acts out in jealousy and arranges to have Lindsey and Liam's sex tape air at a public event. Also, Dixon contracts a spinal infection.

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - Marshall recommends an old law  school buddy for a position at the firm, but the job interview leaves Marshall needing to apologize to his boss.

The Layover with Anthony Bourdain (9pm, Travel) - Season two begins with Anthony Bourdain (left) touring the diverse neighborhoods and dive bars of Chicago. Among the highlights: an informal poll regarding the popularity of deep-dish pizza, the sampling of hot dogs, Polish sausages and Italian beef sandwiches, and a trip to the International Museum of Surgical Science.

The Dust Bowl (9pm, UNC-TV) - The conclusion looks at how many families sought refuge from the Great Plains in California, and how government-led conservation efforts worked in conjunction with a break in the drought in 1939 to stabilize the soil and inject new life into farms.

2 Broke Girls (9pm, CBS) - Max and Caroline get two Amish boys, who are in Brooklyn to explore the modern world, to build a barn for Chestnut.

Revolution (10pm, NBC) - Miles, Charlie and the gang head to Monroe's lair at Independence Hall, but they run into trouble when they can't separate fantasy from reality.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Castle and Beckett must go on the run with a murder witness they're protecting from the mob, and because they had to move quickly, they find themselves unarmed and stranded with no phone in the middle of the night.

What to Watch on Monday: A 9/11 cold case on 'Bones'

Bones (8pm, Fox) - Brennan's new fascination with basketball and legendary coach Phil Jackson's thoughts on teamwork prompts her to gather five of her best "squinterns" to analyze remains that have never been identified. In the process, they try to identify a man who died in the 9/11 attacks and determine whether he was a perpetrator or a victim.

Gossip Girl (9pm, CW) - Blair tries to correct her company's mistakes by debuting a dress at a cotillion, where a surprising revelation jolts everyone.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Castle and Beckett investigate the murder of a rock star who was being filmed by a documentary crew, and the film crew decide to keep their cameras rolling and record some crime-solving skills in action.

Hawaii Five-0 (10pm, CBS) - Danny is forced to remain perfectly still while explosives disarm a bomb that he accidentally activated. To keep him calm, McGarrett distracts him by getting him to tell about the toughest case he ever worked back in New Jersey. Guest stars Terrence Howard and the rapper T.I.

Revolution (10pm, NBC) - Nora runs into a close relative, forcing her to make a tough decision. Also, a ruthless militia leader tracks Miles, Charlie and the gang.

What to Watch on Monday: Shows preempted last week air tonight

Note: Many TV shows, especially on CBS and the CW, were preempted last week due to Hurricane Sandy coverage. Those shows are airing tonight. 

90210 (8pm, CW) - Naomi plans a getaway with Max and ends up questioning their relationship, while Silver attempts to contained leaked nude photos of her.

Bones (8pm, Fox) - A woman's mutilated body is discovered in a city garbage can. Also, Booth offers Sweets a temporary place to live while he looks for a new apartment.

How  I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - With a rash of relationships on rocky ground, Ted and Victoria find themselves at a romantic crossroads, while Robin thinks Barney's screwy when he decides to employ a dog as his wingman.

The Voice (8pm, NBC) - The live Playoffs begin tonight.

Hawaii Five-0 (10pm, CBS) - A grisly murder leads Five-0 to discover a ritualistic killing on Halloween, and the evidence suggests that the murderer will soon strike again.

Start-Ups: Silicon Valley (10pm, Bravo) - A new series focusing on a group of young entrepreneurs in California's Silicon Valley. Tonight, Ben and Hermione throw a toga party to celebrate their new venture.

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (10pm, Food) - In the spotlight tonight, craft-made beers and shrimp-and-grits in Kill Devil Hills. Also, pasta with littleneck clams in Rhode Island and grilled cheese and a porchetta dish in St. Louis.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - A homicide occurs at a sci-fi convention, forcing Castle and Beckett to deal with zealous fans and pompous celebrities as they investigate the crime.

The Inbetweeners (10:30pm, MTV) - Will serves as chairman of the homecoming dance and Jay attempts win back Brie.

What to Watch on Monday: What happens when '2 Broke Girls' get credit?

Update: CW is showing repeats tonight because of Hurricane Sandy. Not sure yet if other networks are doing the same. 90210 (8pm, CW) - Naomi plans a getaway with Max and ends up questioning their relationship, and Silver attempts to to contain leaked nude photos of her. Elsewhere, Liam enrolls in business-law classes and later, goes camping with Navid and Dixon to avoid his new costar. Ryan "Diamond Grill" Lochte has a cameo as himself.

Update: CBS is also showing repeats tonight! 2 Broke Girls (9pm, CBS) - Max and Caroline (left) get a credit card and then disagree on what to charge on it. Meanwhile, Earl's estranged son comes to New York in hopes of becoming a stand-up comedian.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Castle becomes the prime suspect in a ritualistic killing, and Beckett's loyalty toward him wavers in the face of mounting evidence.

Revolution (10pm, NBC) - Miles leads the group to an acquaintance who can help the injured Nora, but the journey takes them into unfriendly territory. Also, Aaron recalls his life prior to and after the blackout, and Neville delivers Danny to Monroe.

What to Watch on Monday: No closer to a rescue on 'Revolution'

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) -  Unable to decide which of their friends would make the best godparents, Lily and Marshall put them all to a test.

Gossip Girl (9pm, CW) - Serena hosts a gala for a conservancy, while Blair encounters a past enemy as she gets ready to debut her fashion line.

Major Crimes (9pm, TNT) - Major Crimes teams with the FBI to apprehend a lethal sniper, and Raydor negotiates a deal that even Provenza can support.

Revolution (10pm, NBC) - The gang close in on Neville's group, but a discovery threatens to impede their efforts to rescue Danny. Also, Monroe (David Lyons, left) ups the value of Danny's life and Nora makes a connection with another rebel.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Castle and Beckett head to the Hamptons for a romantic getaway, but their plans go awry when a man dies in Castle's pool and they assist the small-town police with the homicide investigation.

Hawaii Five-0 (10pm, CBS) - The death of a polo player who literally loses his head is investigated. Meanwhile, McGarrett's mother pays him an unexpected visit.

Intervention (10pm, A&E) - The story of a 25-year-old man with alcohol addiction who is expecting his first child. 

What to Watch on Monday: New seasons of '90210' and 'Gossip Girl'

The Voice (8pm, NBC) - The battle round opens with team members dueling in duets and the coaches enlisting help from star advisors Billie Joe Armstrong, Mary J. Blige, Michael Buble and Rob Thomas.

Bones (8pm, Fox) - The team's investigation of the death of an animal-expo worker leads them into the shady market for illegal animal trading.

Secret Service  Files (8pm, National Geographic Channel) - From President Clinton's diplomatic visit to Pakistan in 2000 to a live grenade launched at President Bush in 2005, Secret Service agents discuss the challenges of protecting the President.

90210 (8pm, CW) - In the Season 5 opener, Naomi and Max land in jail after plans go awry. Also, Liam puts the Offshore on the market in order to pay off Vanessa, and receives an offer from Navid.

Gossip Girl (9pm, CW) - In the sixth season premiere, Blair and Chuck part ways after making each other a promise. Meanwhile, Georgina assists Dan with his tell-all book and the gang rallies together to locate a missing Serena (Blake Lively, right).

Major Crimes (9pm, TNT) - This "Closer" spinoff grows on me more and more each week. Tonight, fuzzy facts and cloudy clues mark an investigation when a man from Las Vegas is found dead. Meanwhile, Rusty and Raydor question whether they can trust Rusty's father. (I'm way more invested in this Rusty storyline than I ever thought I would be.)

Mike & Molly (9:30pm, CBS) - Molly gets upset when she reviews her wedding photos because in every picture, Mike's mouth is open or his eyes are closed.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Castle and Beckett look into the auction of a storage unit, which may be tied to a woman's murder, and soon they find themselves mingling with both treasure hunters and socialites.

What to Watch on Monday: Barney's prenup on 'How I Met Your Mother'

Bones (8pm, Fox) - An investigation of human remains found in the aftermath of an explosion in a hotel garage hits a snag when the team learn their assumptions about a man's fate are incorrect.

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris, left) extensive and comprehensive pre-nup leads the guys to put forth their own relationship principles, which their significant others do not find agreeable. Meanwhile, an incensed Quinn (Becki Newton, left) responds with her own prenup.

Major Crimes (9pm, TNT) - Tao faces his past actions when a years-long murder conviction is overturned. Elsewhere, Rusty has his first outing with this father.

2 Broke Girls (9pm, CBS) - Max and Caroline eagerly await a phone call from Martha Stewart after the domestic maven likes one of their cupcakes.

Revolution (10pm, NBC) - Nora takes Miles and Charlie to a rebel camp while Aaron and Maggie look for Grace.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - Beckett returns from her suspension and joins Castle in investigating the death of a local TV weather forecaster. Meanwhile, she and Castle try to keep their new romance a secret at work.

Half the Sky (10pm, UNC-TV) - The oppression of women around the world is examined by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who is joined by Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan and Gabrielle Union on trips to Sierra Leone, Cambodia and Vietnam. Part two airs tomorrow night.

What to Watch on Monday: 'Dancing with the Stars' and others return for fall season

Here we go, people. The fall TV season kicks into high gear this week! These are just the new shows airing tonight. Don't forget that previously debuted shows like "The Voice" (NBC), "Revolution" (NBC), "Bones" (Fox), and "The Mob Doctor" (Fox) also air.

How I Met Your Mother (8pm, CBS) - Season 8 opens with the impending wedding of Barney and Robin, but concerns that one or both of them will get cold feet cloud the happy time.

Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars (8pm, ABC) - The 15th season begins with some DWTS favorites returning to the dance floor. Competitors include Kirstie Alley, Emmitt Smith (right) and Drew Lachey.

Partners (8:30pm, CBS) - A new sitcom about the longtime friendship between two business partners, one straight and one gay. See Adrienne's review.

2 Broke Girls (9pm, CBS) - The second season begins with the girls visiting Caroline's father in prison. He encourages them to attend the Channing family's estate auction and buy a particular keepsake. I'm hoping there's a "There's always money in the banana stand" moment.

Mike & Molly (9:30pm, CBS) - In the Season 3 premiere, Mike and Molly's  honeymoon in Paris inspires Mike to make some life-altering changes.

Hawaii Five-0 (10pm, CBS) - The third season begins with McGarrett dealing with the realization that his mother is alive, while Five-0 hunts for Wo Fat to avenge the death of a team family member.

Castle (10pm, ABC) - In the Season 5 opener, a night of passion forces Castle and Beckett to reexamine their relationship. Meanwhile, they must go up against the people who murdered Beckett's mother and who are now threatening Beckett's life.

The Day Carl Sandurg Died (10pm, UNC-TV) - This documentary examines the life and legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet-author Carl Sandburg. It features remarks from his daughter and grandson, as well as friends and prominent authors.
