Panther Creek 41, Green Hope 6

CARY – Panther Creek sets a school record for most football wins in a season with each victory, and the Catamounts put this one in the books early.

Panther Creek scored touchdowns on three of its first four snaps from center to take a 21-0 first-quarter lead en route to a 41-6 win Friday night over Green Hope on the Falcons' field.

Area runners set PRs in fast Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary

One of the beauties of high school cross country is when a national favorite shows up and shatters a course record, others in the field can still compete against the clock and walk away thrilled with a personal record.

Millbrook junior Samantha George did just that in the Race of Champions division of the nationally prestigious Great American Cross Country Festival Saturday at the WakeMed Soccer Park.

George placed eighth overall with a personal best of 17 minutes, 53 seconds in a 5,000-meter race won by Aisling Cuffe of Cornwall, N.Y., by an astounding 53-second margin.

Cary 36, Green Hope 0

With Friday’s 36-0 home win over winless Green Hope, Cary stayed right in the thick of the race for the Tri-Nine conference championship. Having only lost to Fuquay-Varina in league play, the Imps (6-1, 3-1) remain in control of their fate this season.

But from here on out it gets serious.

Weekend roundup of Big Sweep events in Wake County

If you haven't noticed, cleanup events are sweeping across North Carolina, and the biggest chunk of them are happening this weekend in Wake County. Cary 38, Holly Springs 7

Deandre Henry piled up 150 yards rushing, 79 yards receiving and scored two touchdowns as Cary spoiled Holly Springs’ homecoming Friday night by the score of 38-7.

Henry wasted no time giving the Imps an early lead. On the second play of the game, the junior tailback took the ball 89 yards around the right side for a touchdown.

Events on tap to celebrate America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is coming up on Nov. 15, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States. Communities have come together across the country on this date since 1997 to inform and educate to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year.

Cary 35, Apex 21

The latest edition of the nearly century-old rivalry between Apex and Cary started bitterly and ended sweetly for Deandre Henry.

The Cary junior running back sat out most of the first quarter as a disciplinary measure, but three-plus quarters was enough for him to carry 18 times for 281 yards and two touchdowns to lead the No. 7-ranked Imps to a 35-21 win over Apex Friday night at Cooper Field.

Cary-based ABB to add 130 jobs in Wake and Mecklenburg

ABB, a Cary company that makes power transmission and distribution system, said today it will create 130 jobs in Wake and Mecklenburg counties over the next two years.

The bulk of the jobs, 100, will be in Huntersvillle where ABB will build a new manufacturing facility.

ABB currently employs about 775 people in North Carolina, including 550 in the Triangle.

About 250 people work at the company’s North American headquarters in Cary and another 300 at its offices on N.C. State’s Centennial Campus.

State officials awarded ABB $2.149 million in incentives today if the company meets its job creation requirements.

 

Cary 31, Sanderson 0

Through two games this season Cary had outscored its opponents by a combined 87-32. Friday night was more of the same.

The Imps scored a defensive touchdown and got two more on special teams to pummel Sanderson on the road 31-0 and remain unbeaten.

Cary 34, Northern Nash 6

A week ago, featured running backs Deandre Henry and Rashad Hedgepeth carried their respective teams to season-opening victories, but only Henry could break free the second week.

Henry, Cary's 5-foot-9, 160-pound junior, broke off touchdown runs of 25 and 31 yards to lead the Imps to a 34-6 win over Rocky Mount Northern Nash Friday night at Cooper Field.
