MarQus Johnson leaves Cary Invasion for the college ranks

The Cary Invasion announced today that head coach MarQus Johnson has accepted a full-time basketball coaching position with St. Augustine's University in Raleigh.

Johnson is the only coach the team has had in its two seasons. He's led the team to a 22-5 record, including winning the league championship in 2011.

"Coach Johnson will be sorely missed, but we wish him the best and totally understand and support his decision," said Cary Invasion Owner and General Manager Mark Janas in a statement.

The statement added that, according to Janas, Johnson's coaching skills and connections to player networks make him difficult to replace and will likely force wholesale changes in the organization.

Invasion's league announces schedule, teams

The Tobacco Road Basketball League has added three more teams and finalized its 2012 schedule.

Invasion announces tryouts

The Cary Invasion, the minor league basketball team who played their first season this past spring, will be hosting open tryouts Jan. 28-29 at the Herbert Young Center in downtown Cary.

The Invasion went 9-1 in the regular season and won the one-game championship series as well.

As a personal aside, I plan on covering this event very closely.
