The Cary Cougars' 16U team ended its season in the USBA Tournament's final four round on Saturday. The Cougars were upset by the Charlotte Mustangs 71-69.
The Mustangs hit an astounding 11-of-15 3-pointers (73 percent), including eight in the first half.
The Cougars were out-rebounded 39-31 and shot 39 percent from the field — not quite enough to keep up with the Mustangs' 54 percent.
Cary, which trailed 32-30 at the half, actually held a 10-point advantage with seven minutes left in the game, but the Mustangs' 3-point barrage erased the lead quickly.
Bruce Lewis had 24 points for the Cougars, while Tariq Forte added 17 and Kameron Bryant 15. Austin Branned chipped in four as did Daniel Donley, and DomiNick Downing had two points. Sunil Ram had three points and a team-high seven assists.
The Cougars finished third at the USBA National Tournament and end their year 23-12 overall, 22-6 in their division.
