Mission Sports Holiday Invitational brackets, match-ups

The Mission Sports Holiday Invitational, held at Cary Academy Dec. 20-22, will feature an eight-team girls bracket and a pool-play boys tournament.

Each of the boys teams will be pooled into groups of three and those teams will square off against one another in the first two days of the tournament.  Following pool play, the teams will be seeded within their pool 1-3 and will commence into bracket play on the third and final day of the tournament.

Three area runners qualify for National Footlocker meet

On Saturday, four area runners placed in the top 10 at the National Footlocker South Regional Cross Country meet in Charlotte, which qualifies them for the National Footlocker Cross Country Meet in San Diego on Dec. 11.

Word of God 67, Cary Christian 28

RALEIGH – Word of God came up short the first two times the Holy Rams played in the NCISAA 8-man football state championship game with losses in 2006 and 2008. But not this time.

There was no chance of coming up short in 2010 with Qwentareus Yarborough going the distance on touchdown runs of 64 and 77 yards to open the third quarter en route to a 67-28 win over Cary Christian Friday night at Ravenscroft.

It's playoff time! Five Tri-Nine teams are in action while Cary Christian will play in the NCISAA 8-man football championship.

Cary Christian 57, Northeast 56

CARY - Cary Christian finally got the defensive stop it needed and then two Knights quarterbacks hooked up for the game-winning touchdown with just 17 seconds to play Friday as Cary rallied to defeat Northeast Academy 57-56 in an absolutely wild football game that pushed the Knights into the NCISAA 8-man football championship game next week.

St. David's, Cary Christian fall in volleyball

St. David's and Cary Christian were eliminated in the NCISAA 2-A volleyball tournament on Friday. St. David's lost to top-seed Asheville Christian in three straight while Cary Christian, the No. 2 seed, was eliminated by Southlake Christian in four games.

NCISAA second round volleyball pairings

St. David's is the host school for the NCISAA 2-A girls volleyball semifinals and finals.

NCISAA third round soccer

Cary Christian plays High Point Westchester in the third round of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2-A boys soccer playoffs on Friday at the Gillette Complex in Wilson.

Area tennis, volleyball and soccer playoff scores from Tuesday

Playoff scores from teams in the Southwest Wake Area such as Apex, Cary Academy, Cary Christian, Athens Drive and Cary in sports like tennis, volleyball, soccer and field hockey.

NCISAA volleyball brackets

Cary Academy is the top seed in the NCISAA 3-A volleyball playoffs, while Cary Christian is the second seed in the 2-A and Trinity School of Durham is the third seed in the 1-A. Volleyball playoffs start Tuesday and will end on Saturday.
