Cary Bulls grab their 500th victory

RALEIGH – Cary Bulls manager Ron Powell let out a few tears. He talked about being old and how that was necessary for him to reach a milestone of this magnitude.

With the Bulls defeating North Raleigh Post 297 Black 15-4 on Thursday night in the second game of a doubleheader, the Bulls won their 500th game.

Powell has been the manager for every victory.

“What it means to me is that we’ve had about 170 kids that have been a part of our program,” said Powell, who has led the Bulls for 15 years. “It’s been really fun. We’re a development program and we try to get each player to develop and dream he can play at the next level.”

Listen/Watch LIVE to junior legion state tournament

Right now, former Green Hope players Grant Shambley and Joe Pistacchio are doing play-by-play for the Junior Legion state tournament, going on right now in Durham at historic Durham Athletic Park.

Shambly and Pistacchio are calling the West Johnston-South Caldwell game, which started 9:45 a.m., and will be on again at 12:40 and again at 3:40 p.m. to call the Cary Bulls' game.

Shambley and Pistacchio are both former Bulls players as well.

There is a camera pointed at the field as well, but it's a ways off and doesn't zoom. My advice: listen to the guys as you surf the web on another tab.

Bulls-West Johnston series will decide conference champ

A two-game series between the Cary Bulls and the West Johnston junior legion baseball teams will decide the conference champion this week.

The games are the last conference games of the season. West enters with a 10-0 mark in league play, while the Bulls are 9-1 with the lone loss coming to the Cary Colts.

The two teams play tonight at 6 p.m. at West Johnston High School, then again on Thursday, 6 p.m., at Athens Drive.

Bulls' season concludes just short of title

The Cary Bulls Junior Legion team fell just short in its quest to win back-to-back state championships, falling 3-2 to Mooresville on Monday in the bottom of the seventh.

We'll have more on this game and the end of the Bulls' season that saw them win 43 games to just four losses in the 7/29 edition of The Cary News. Had the Bulls won Monday night, they would've played Rocky Mount on Tuesday, needing to win twice to clinch their fifth title in the last eight years.
