Former Carver Elementary Principal Allison Baker was convicted earlier this month of the misdemeanor charge of assaulting a child under 12.

Wake District Court Jacqueline Brewer found her guilty after a trial. Baker received a 45-day suspended sentence and 12 months of unsupervised probation.

Baker is appealing the case to Wake Superior Court.

Baker had resigned June 1 after having been suspended by the school system for "negative interaction with a student."

Only one new principal appointment tonight.

Camille Hedrick was named principal of Apex Middle School at a salary of $112,286. She replaces Timothy Lee Locklair, who was recently named principal of Holly Springs High.

Hedrick has been an assistant principal at Lufkin Road Middle School since 2006. She's also married to James Hedrick, principal of Green Hope High School.

The former principal of Carver Elementary School in Wendell will have to appear in court to answer allegations she assaulted a student.

Allison Baker was served Thursday with a criminal summons of assaulting a child under 12, according to Phyllis Stephens, a spokeswoman for the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Baker had resigned as principal on June 1 after having been suspended with pay May 22 for "negative interaction with a student," according to Michael Evans, a school system spokesman.

We've got new principals tonight at Holly Springs High, Davis Drive Elementary and Wildwood Forest Elementary and an interim leader at Carver Elementary.

Timothy Lee Locklair will become principal of Holly Springs High, replacing Luther Johnson, who left due to health issues. Locklair has been the principal of Apex Middle since 2004 and previously was a high school teacher and assistant principal in Moore County.

Locklair will receive a salary of $95,902.
