If you have a shopping trip planned to Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield this month, here's a deal you might want to consider.

Make a $10 donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and receive a special savings card filled "25 percent off a single item" coupons at several stores, including Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, J.Crew, Jones New York, Nautica, Polo Ralph Lauren, Talbots and Tommy Hilfiger.

The promotion, which runs the entire month of October, starts today. The savings cards are available at the outlets' information center. Donations will go to support breast cancer awareness, outreach, research, and treatment programs.

Here's a deal for those among us in the "50 and over" crowd.

Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield offers something called "50 Plus Shopper Perks" every Tuesday.
If you are at least 50 years of age, you qualify for 10 percent off your purchases at participating stores. All you have to do is show a photo ID with your proof of age to the cashier.

Liz Claiborne will close all 87 of its outlet stores in the United States and Puerto Rico by early 2011, including the one at the Carolina Premium Outlets in Smithfield.

The company's other outlet store brands, including Juicy Couture, Lucky, Kate Spade and Kensie, are not affected by the decision.

CEO William McComb explained the decision by saying that the outlet store model was outdated for Liz Claiborne: "Our current fleet of Liz Claiborne branded outlet stores was originally designed and leased to handle clearance for many brands in our portfolio -- an outdated consumer proposition and one that no longer makes economic sense, given the vast changes we have made to our portfolio and business strategy over the past three years."

It is not known yet how quickly the Smithfield store will close.
