Cheese wrapper your ticket to free baseball

Francisco powers Mudcats

ZEBULON — Carolina Mudcats third baseman Juan Francisco, who had been on the disabled list earlier this season, has been on a tear lately and it helped out in the second game in a row.

The Mudcats beat the Tennessee Smokies 6-0 Tuesday afternoon, their second win in a row.

Three Mudcats make starting lineup

Today the Southern League released its North Division's tentative starting lineup for the 2009 Southern League All-Star game, scheduled for July 13 at Regions Park in Birmingham, Ala.

Three of the six Carolina Mudcats on the All-Star roster have made the starting lineup. Those include left-fielder Todd Frazier, shortstop Zack Cozart and pitcher Travis Wood.

The Carolina Mudcats are in a dead heat with the Huntsville Stars for the North Division title with one game left in the Southern League's first half.

 

Mudcats making torrid first-half run

The Carolina Mudcats are putting some serious heat on the Huntsville Stars as the end of the Southern League's first half approaches.

The Mudcats (36-28), winners of 20 of their past 24 games, clinched their sixth straight series win with a 2-0 victory over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in a rain-shortened game Monday afternoon at Five County Stadium. The Cats pulled within 1 1/2 games of the Stars (37-26) in the North Division race with five games left in the first half.

Red-hot Cats begin 10-game homestand

The Carolina Mudcats, winners of five straight games and eight of their past 10, begin a 10-game homestand tonight at 7:15. The Mudcats will face the Montgomery Biscuits for five games at Five County Stadium and then begin a five-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on Sunday.

 

Former Mudcat Kendall reaches 2,000 hits

Jason Kendall, a can't-miss prospect with the Carolina Mudcats in 1995, has delivered on that potential in a 14-year major league career. Kendall rapped his 2,000th big league hit on Monday, becoming just the eighth catcher in major league history to reach that milestone.

 

 

Mudcats host Lookouts, BayBears

The Carolina Mudcats begin their first 10-day homestand of the season tonight at 7:15 against Chattanooga, the first of five games against the Lookouts. The Mobile BayBears come to Five County Stadium on Tuesday to begin a five-game series.
