NCISAA basketball playoffs scheduled

The N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association basketball playoffs are set to start, and conclude, this week.

Aside from the opening rounds, which will be played Tuesday at higher seeds, Raleigh is the host of this year's tournaments.

Thursday's second quarterfinals, Friday's semifinals and Saturday's championships will be held at North Raleigh Christian Academy (1A), St. David's School (2A) and Ravenscroft (3A).

Among the top area teams in this year's field: Ravenscroft's boys (2-seed, 3A), Cary Academy girls (5-seed, 3A), Durham's Carolina Friends girls (2-seed, 2A), Cary Christian's girls (5-seed, 2A), Word of God boys (3-seed, 1A), St. David's girls (9-seed, 2A).

NCISAA fall playoffs down to two days

The N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs go by fast. Other than football, the postseason for all fall sports started either Tuesday or last Friday and they will all end this weekend (again, other than football).

Here are the remaining fields left in every fall sport.

Ravens boys soccer faces Charlotte Country Day

Ravenscroft and Cary Academy have reached the second round of the NCISAA boys soccer playoffs.

NCISAA boys soccer playoff match-ups

The boys soccer brackets have been released for 2011 N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs. Undefeated Carolina Friends School, in Durham, has a 2-seed in the 2A playoffs.

Competition begins this Friday, with all games taking place at the higher seed.

Vernon going to Winthrop

Durham Carolina Friends senior forward Zoe Vernon has committed to play at Winthrop, according to ESPN's HoopGurlz recruiting website.

NCISAA girls soccer brackets

The NCISAA girls soccer brackets have been released. Cary Academy, Cary Christian, Ravenscroft. St. Mary's, Durham Trinity, St. David's and Cape Fear Christian Academy represent the greater Triangle area.

Mission Sports Holiday Invitational brackets, match-ups

The Mission Sports Holiday Invitational, held at Cary Academy Dec. 20-22, will feature an eight-team girls bracket and a pool-play boys tournament.

Each of the boys teams will be pooled into groups of three and those teams will square off against one another in the first two days of the tournament.  Following pool play, the teams will be seeded within their pool 1-3 and will commence into bracket play on the third and final day of the tournament.

NCISAA volleyball brackets

Cary Academy is the top seed in the NCISAA 3-A volleyball playoffs, while Cary Christian is the second seed in the 2-A and Trinity School of Durham is the third seed in the 1-A. Volleyball playoffs start Tuesday and will end on Saturday.
