I take a look at some of the difference makers in the South Johnston vs. Smithfield-Selma series with a focus on South Johnston senior running back Tony Davis. Davis has semi-quietly piled up more than 4,500 yards rushing in his career.

South Johnston 36, Clayton 26

The Comets rushed for 429 yards — 327 from Anthony Hinton — but South Johnston scored on drives of one, two, three and four plays and never trailed after the second quarter.

West Johnston 49, North Johnston 14

The Wildcats moved to 3-0 for the first time in school history.

Smithfield-Selma 22, Chapel Hill 12

The Spartans avenged a second-round 4-A playoff loss last season and picked up their second straight regular-season win over the Tigers.

Dixon 7, Princeton 6

The Bulldogs from Holly Ridge held on for a one-point victory after leading 7-0 at the half.

West Johnston 35, South Johnston 28

Lincoln Morton threw five TD passes for the Wildcats. Tony Davis rushed for 202 yards and three TDs for South.

Nash Central 28, Smithfield-Selma 20

The Spartans give up a kick return for a touchdown and a fake punt for six as well a week after shuttng out Triton.

Clayton 33, C.B. Aycock 28

The Comets put more than 300 rushing yards up on the night.

Princeton 25, North Moore 0

The Bulldogs even their record at 1-1, earning their first shutout victory in some time.

North Lenoir 15, North Johnston 14

Another week, another one-point loss for the Panthers.
