CafePress, the online business that sells custom-printed products for individuals and businesses, has purchased Raleigh's Canvas on Demand for an undisclosed sum.
Canvas on Demand specializes in offering personalized canvas photo products, and its acqusition allows California-based CafePress to further expand its existing line of personal photo products. In 2008 CafePress also acquired a company called Imagekind, an online community where artists can sell their art on canvases or as framed art.
Canvas on Demand co-owners Joe Schmidt and Tom Lotrecchiano will become general managers for the art business at CafePress, including both Canvas on Demand and Imagekind. Canvas on Demand's operations and its 65 employees will remain in Raleigh.
Canvas on Demand is showing more love to military Moms.
The increasing popularity of putting photos on large canvas prints also is increasing competition for companies in the business, including Raleigh-based Canvas on Demand, USA Today reports.
