Three points: N.C. State 87, Campbell 81

Note: New feature alert! I'll recap each game with "Three Points" on StateNow the day after each basketball and football game.

1. That was a crazy game to schedule

Mark Gottfried said he was "crazy" for scheduling the trip to St. Bonaventure earlier this month but he was certifiable for agreeing to face Campbell on Thursday night at Reynolds Coliseum.

A) Campbell has a good basketball team with three ACC-level players in guard Trey Freeman, guard Darren White and forward Eric Griffin.

It's not hyperbole to claim Campbell could finish ninth in the ACC this season.

Brown leads Pack past Camels, 87-81

RALEIGH — Since N.C. State left for the RBC Center 12 years ago, the occasional game at Reynolds Coliseum has been more of a nostalgic indulgence than a basketball test.

Campbell changed that Tuesday night in front of a capacity crowd at the Old Barn. N.C. State needed every bit of 24 points and eight assists from Lorenzo Brown to turn away the Camels, 87-81.

A friendly exhibition between two in-state schools it was not. There were three technical fouls in the second half and dueling chants between the fan bases, a sizable portion of about 2,500 Campbell fans showed up, hoping for a repeat of history.

On the Recruiting Front: softball teammates going to Campbell

Two Western Harnett seniors are heading to Campbell next year for softball, joining Fuquay-Varina's Camise Patterson.

Campbell games on WTVD

WTVD, the ABC affiliate in the Raleigh, Durham and Fayetteville market, is picking up a couple of Campbell basketball games — the women's team against USC Upstate at noon Saturday and the men's team vs. Stetson next Friday at 7 p.m. The games can be seen on over-the-air digital channel 11.2 and Time Warner Cable channel 213.

Always raising private money

The economy may be in the tank, but isn't stopping the state's universities from asking their alums for money.

So says the Triangle Business Journal, which reports that while private giving may drop a bit in hard economic times, universities don't stop pushing for those donations.
