South Johnston running back headed to Fayetteville State

South Johnston High standout running back Tony Davis will sign a
national letter of intent to attend Fayetteville State on a football
scholarship on Wednesday morning. Davis compiled more than 5,000 yards
rushing in his career for the Trojans.

Friday, Oct. 3 Prep Football Scores

West Johnston 21, East Wake 14

The Wildcats led 21-0 when one of its players threw punches at an assistant coach and had to be escorted off of the field by a deputy sheriff. West then had to hang on, recovering an onside kick in the final seconds, to seal their seventh win of the season.

Clayton 24, Holly Springs 17

The Comets trailed 10-0 at the half, pulled ahead 16-10, then fell back behind 17-16 before winning.

Southeast Raleigh 41, Smithfield-Selma 13

The Spartans fall in a double-digit hole (this one, 20-0) for the third straight game and never recover. UNC recruit Justin Dixon doesn't play in the game after being suspended.

Triton 40, South Johnston 29

The Hawks hand the Trojans their second loss in as many Cape Fear Valley 3-A Conference outings. South was the defending league champion.

SSS, South Johnston on the move up in latest N&O football poll

Smithfield-Selma is up to sixth (from  eighth) and South Johnston moves up to eighth (from ninth) in the latest N&O High School Huddle top-12 area poll. Both teams won their openers last week in convincing fashion.

South Johnston 55, Princeton 7

South Johnston piled up 493 yards of offense and picked up four first-quarter touchdowns in route to the victory. Tony Davis ran for 185 yards and Patrick Dunigan threw for 239. Caleb Lucas had 101 yards receiving and a pair of touchdown passes.
