New CBS fall TV schedule

What is the grand CBS plan for fall?

Well, they canceled a whole bunch of stuff yesterday, and they're switching the nights for "CSI: New York" and "CSI: Miami." They'll also move "Survivor" from Thursdays to Wednesdays, and move "Big Bang Theory" from Monday to Thursday. Following "Big Bang" will be a new William Shatner sitcom called "$#*! My Dad Says."

Here's how things shake out (new shows in bold):

Canceled: Almost everything on CBS

CBS has pulled the plug on pretty much everything on their schedule without "CSI" or "NCIS" in the title.

What's gone? Cold Case, Numb3rs, Ghost Whisperer, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Gary Unmarried, Miami Medical, and Accidentally on Purpose.

They did renew Rules of Engagement and The Medium.

There's still hope for fans of Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Christine and Jennifer Love-Hewitt's Ghost Whisperer. ABC could be interested in both of those shows, but the odds are better for Christine. (Wanda Sykes co-stars on Christine, and her Fox talk show just got canceled last week).

How I Met Your Mother: Ted's a Mexican robot wrestler

Somewhere along the way of this up-and-down season of How I Met Your Mother, the show let Barney's libido hijack whatever other story lines they had hoped to develop.

Not that we care if we ever get to see Ted meet the mom of his future children, but even the most ardent Neil Patrick Harris fan had to grow tired of the shtick that goes along with Barney's serial conquests. We get it, Barney likes sex.

Monday night, the show thankfully returned to a more fruitful subject: Ted's tendency to put on airs as if he were the heir to the Massengill fortune. And with the Shakespearean subtlety required to deflate his pious readings of Emerson poems and Dante's Inferno in the original Italian, Ted's friends respond with the classic low-brow response: faux flatulence.

Tom Selleck's heavy duty in "Jesse Stone: No Remorse"

Tom Selleck returns tonight (Sunday, CBS, 9pm) in "Jesse Stone: Thin Ice," the sixth film in which he plays a small town police chief created by the late author Robert B. Parker.

Or in this case, a somewhat former small town police chief.

When we meet him in this film, Stone is suspended and fairly certain he won't be returning to work with his colleagues Rose Gammon (Kathy Baker) and Luther Simpson (Kohl Sudduth).

It's an especially bad time for the little Paradise department to be short-handed; someone has viciously beaten and killed a convenience store clerk, and Luther, as temporary police chief, is in over his head when it comes to solving the case.

Meanwhile, Stone gets some consultant work from his friend in Boston,  Commander Healy (Stephen McHattie) who needs help dealing with a string of seemingly random murders.

"When Love Is Not Enough" shows the other victims of addiction

If you like to cap off your weekend with something somber, something weighty "When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story" (CBS, 9 tonight) is the movie for you.

It's the story of alcoholism and its collateral damage; Lois Wilson is the wife of Bill Wilson, the alcoholic founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Because of all she endured she helped found Al-Anon, the group for loved ones of alcoholics.

The Amazing Race: Model hate everywhere U-Turn

How many times have you felt wronged and then imagined a scenario in which you were avenged, but life never presented you with that opportunity?

If your answer is 'too many times', you might want to see if you can get your hands on a U-Turn.

The cowboys leave first heading out to Singapore, by bus and train. They'll all be heading to the Victoria Concert Hall, where they'll get a clue from the handsome Allan Wu, the host of The Amazing Race Asia.

Sharon Lawrence cast in new CBS sitcom

CBS is turning out to be a nice landing spot for North Carolina actresses lately. Just a few weeks ago, Kinston native Jaime Pressly signed on with "How I Met Your Mother" creators for a new unnamed CBS sitcom, and now Charlotte/Raleigh native Sharon Lawrence has been cast in a new Josh Schwartz sitcom pilot for the network called "Hitched."

"Hitched" will center around a newlywed couple, played by Kristin Kreuk and Jack Carpenter, and their family and friends. Lawrence will play the "well-meaning but nosy" mother of Kreuk's character.

The Amazing Race: All hail the power of the cab driver

Airport connections and cab drivers can make or break you during the Race.

Tonight, we saw how cabbies can take you for a ride to the back of the pack.

The father and daughter arrived first on the last leg, so stuffed from their 7UP-sponsored meal, they are first to get the clue that sends the teams to Penang, Malaysia, and the Snake Temple.

As it turns out, being first doesn't matter since all the teams have to catch the same 2 a.m. ocean charter to the Seychelles airport.

How to watch CBS dramas preempted by ACC tourney

If you want to watch any of the CBS dramas preempted by ACC Tournament games Thursday night and tonight, let's hope you have plenty of DVR space (especially if you're recording in HD).

"CSI," "The Mentalist," "Ghost Whisper," "Medium," and "Numb3rs" will all air Saturday night after midnight. WRAL recommends you set your DVR or TIVO to record from 11:30pm Saturday to 6am on Sunday.

There's a good chance tonight's "Numb3rs" season finale could also be a series finale. The show isn't doing great in key demographics and show star Rob Morrow has joined ABC's new legal pilot “The Whole Truth." CBS says no definite decision has been made yet.

The Amazing Race: A slow night, so the cowboys ride again

Another slow leg of the Race. Could this sluggishness mean the end of the show's Emmy dominance?

It's official: I've joined team Cowboys.

Besides being your basic salts of the earth, they're proving to be smart and they have a good sense of humor.  And they are interesting, unlike almost everyone else.
