What to Watch on Monday: Two Syfy premieres and a 'Bachelor Pad' plague

Bachelor Pad (8pm, ABC) - The worst thing about "The Bachelorette" ending is that it means "Bachelor Pad" begins. Fifteen castoffs from "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" join five "super fans" in a Malibu mansion and begin competing for $250,000 in cash.

Alphas (10pm, Syfy) - Season 2 picks up eight months after last year's finale, with Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) having exposed the existence of Alphasto and finding himself descredited and imprisoned by a government desperate to cover up his revelation. Some of the team have disbanded and without Rosen's care and guidance, have regressed into old, destructive ways. A hostage situation forces them to reunite and try to save one of their own. Some of the guest stars on tap for this season include Sean Astin, C. Thomas Howell, Lauren Holly and Summer Glau. Check out the trailer for "Alphas" and a scene from tonight's premiere episode.

Perception (10pm, TNT) - Pierce and Moretti spring into action when a serial killer from 1986 returns and begins murdering again. Moretti receives advice about the case from her father, who investigated the original killing spree.

Hard Times: Lost on Long Island (9pm, HBO) - A documentary tracking four suburban New York families who have been affected by unemployment. Adrienne reviews.

The Closer (9pm, TNT) - The second half of the show's seventh and final season begins with Brenda tangling with her nemesis: lawyer and suspected rapist-murderer Phillip Stroh (Billy Burke, at right with Kyra Sedgwick). It's an unusual episode, particularly in format. The story is told in the context of a trial and Brenda's testimony on the stand.

In tonight's first episode, the professor looks into the death of a pharmaceutical executive. Eric McCormack ("Will & Grace") stars. Adrienne reviews.

What to Watch on Monday: Emily's global 'Bachelorette' jaunt moves to Prague

Bachelorette (8pm, ABC) - Charlotte's Emily Maynard arrives in Prague with her six remaining bachelors. John (aka "Wolf"), who was nearly sent home last week, gets a one-on-one date and the two visit the Lennon wall, which displays an ever-changing presentation of John Lennon-inspired graffiti, serving as symbol of peace and love. Not sure it's going to help. Also, one of the guys becomes upset for not getting an individual date, while another takes it upon himself to sneak out of the hotel for some forbidden alone time with Emily.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - Fanny finds out Michelle is the sole beneficiary of Hubble's will, and Michelle's joyride goes badly when she has a confrontation with the police and breaks down in a stranger's driveway.

On the group date, the men get to enjoy some crossover-synergy sizzle with the screening of a Disney/Pixar film. ABC says Emily makes some "surprising moves" at the rose ceremony.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager (8pm, ABC Family) - Amy and Ricky return from their secret adventure and Grace continues to shut out Adrian.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - A tragedy puts Fanny and Michelle's lives in chaos, so Michelle reaches out to help Fanny, despite the antagonistic nature of their relationship.

And most importantly -- how OUR behavior directly contributes to the misery of many of these dogs.

The Glass House (10pm, ABC) - This is the "Big Brother" ripoff show CBS has sued ABC to block. If you're reading this, it means CBS failed to block it. What's it about? Well, you know "Big Brother?" It's exactly that.

Miss Advised (10pm, Bravo) - A new reality series that charts the uneven romantic lives of three female relationship experts: Julia Allison, Amy Laurent and Emily Morse. In the premiere, Julia moves to Los Angeles to find her romantic match and Amy is challenged by an old flame.

What to Watch on Monday: 'Bunheads' and tough talk on 'Bachelorette'

The Bachelorette (8pm, ABC) - Charlotte's Emily Maynard (at left with race car driver Arie) and her 10 remaining suitors visit London, where one-on-one dates include a double-decker bus tour and an etiquette lesson. There's also some controversy over one man's comments about Emily's daughter. This has to be the part where some guy (I'm guessing jackbutt Kalon) refers to Ricki as "baggage."

The Secret Life of the American Teenager (8pm, ABC Family) - In the Season 5 premiere, Amy and Ricky run off as they contemplate eloping, and George is the only person aware of their secret.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - In the opener of a new series from the creator of "Gilmore Girls," a rejected Las Vegas showgirl impulsively marries a man she barely knows and moves to his small town, where she mentors students at his eccentric mother's dance school. Here's my full review.

Hurricane Hunters (9pm, The Weather Channel) - In the first episode of a new original series from TWC, hurricane hunters from the Air Force's 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron in Mississippi fly into the eye of Hurricane Irene. Here's a little more on "Hurricane Hunters."

American Pickers (9pm, History) - The show is back in North Carolina again this week, where the guys find a collection of enormous steam engines.

Teen Wolf (10pm, MTV) - Scott tries to keep Derek from creating new werewolves while a slithery new creature in town takes another victim (Does this new creature remind anyone else of the "graveling" creatures on Showtime's "Dead Like Me" series? Anyone else even watch Showtime's "Dead Like Me" series?).

Review: 'Bunheads,' a ballet drama from the creator of 'Gilmore Girls'

It's impossible for me not to have crazy high expectations for any new show from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. And that's probably not all that fair.

"Bunheads," debuting Monday night at 9 on ABC Family, is an "okay" ballet drama starring Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as a rejected Las Vegas showgirl who in a weak moment marries an adoring/stalkerish fan (Hubbell Flowers, played by Alan Ruck of "Spin City" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off") and runs away to live with him in his sleepy -- and of course, totally quirky -- beach town.

Okay yes, the show is built around a premise that sounds equal parts creepy and skanky, but Ruck somehow manages to pull off the stalker-fan-turned-husband role in a way that makes him seem sweet and good, and you even start to see why Sutton's despairing character, Michelle Simms, might take a chance on him.
