Media lawyer Jon Buchan of Charlotte will be in Raleigh next week to read from his new novel, "Code of the Forest." Buchan, who grew up in South Carolina and once was an editor at The Charlotte Observer, tells a great yarn about S.C. politics and the role a small-town editor can play in exposing corruption. Once of the scenes from Buchan's book is set in Raleigh's Carolina Country Club. In the scene, powerful S.C. State Sen. Buck Ravenel meets his old prep school friend Vince Stone at the Carolina Country Club on Glenwood Avenue. Here's an excerpt from the book:
