Plotkin on the mend, will take time off

Brian Plotkin's had a rough professional career. After being the 20th overall pick in the 2005 MLS Draft by the Chicago Fire, Plotkin's had a number of injuries. His latest, one to the groin suffered in December, is enough for him to take an "extended break from soccer."  Plotkin was on-again, off-again hurt last season. When healthy, he was an excellant midfielder who created scoring chances for himself and others. When not, he was largely ineffective. While with the Chicago Fire, Plotkin missed a few games due to hip tendenitis.  He signed with the Columbus Crew after being waived by the Fire, but never played a game due to a sports hernia. Here's hoping the break -- no matter how long it may be -- is what his body needs to get his career back on track.
