Doctors on the runway

Some of WakeMed's finest will be hitting the runway Thursday for a good cause.

WakeMed has teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue for a fashion show as part of the Saks Key to the Cure events this week. And WakeMed doctors are among those who will be hitting the catwalk. Here's to look for: Dr. Karen Coates, Dr. Lisa Roberts and her husband Paul Garcia, who also happens to be N.C. State's band director, Dr. Michele Casey, Dr. Michael Ferguson, Dr. Mark Benevides, Dr. Susan Kennedy, Dr. Carroll Overton, Dr. Tony Tackman, Dr. Lori Tackman, Dr. Monica Jones and her husband John Jones.

Also, Kellie Harper, N.C. State's women's basketball coach, and her husband John Harper will be models in the show.

Tickets cost $30 and include a wine tasting and hor d'oevres. The event is from 6-9 p.m. Buy tickets at keytothecure.wakemed.org.

Support breast cancer research with pink gloves

Pampered Chef has a stylish way to stay dry washing dishes while at the same time supporting breast cancer research: pink latex gloves with pink polka dot cuffs and cotton lining. They cost $10 and are one-size-fits most. A portion of the proceeds from the sales goes to breast cancer research through the American Cancer Society.

If you are interested, shop here (in the "Help Whip Cancer" section, until Oct. 31. Jane Currin, who sent the e-mail to me to tell me about the gloves, is a local Pampered Chef consultant.

Win a Tuleh dress, help fight breast cancer

Vermillion women's clothing boutique is offering up the chance to win a stunning pink dress by Tuleh (that feels a little Joan Holloway on Mad Men, yes?) valued at $1,250 as part of a raffle to benefit the American Cancer Society. It's Vermillion's part to help raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Raffle tickets cost $50 and you can buy them at the North Hills store throughout October. The drawing will be held Nov. 1.

Michael Stars' breast cancer charity tops

Count Michael Stars among those with a selection of breast cancer awareness T-shirts designed to help raise money for the cause.

Pick from a long-sleeve T-shirt or a tank top. Both have a more subtle message for the cause (with the outline of a pink ribbon and the word 'hope' written in lower case cursive), if that's more your style. The tank is $48 and the long-sleeve T-shirt is $59. Like most of the other cotton Michael Stars shirts, they're made of supima cotton and are fitted.

Michael Stars is donating $10,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Beijo Bag's pink purse for the cause

I always hit the Beijo Bags booth at the annual A Shopping Spree (coming up soon, btw, Oct 22-25). If you've never seen the bags, they're made of a shiny plastic material that actually looks edgy and chic. (I have a burgundy one with a silver chain strap that's perfect to use on rainy nights.)

Anyway, I was happy to see you can get a Beijo Bag that also supports breast cancer research and patients with the disease. It's called the Pinky Promise and has incorporated into its design a pink ribbon handle. The bag was a labor of love for Susan Handley, whose mother successfully battled breast cancer. Susan now donates 35 percent of the sales of this bag to Breast Cancer Network of Strength, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Breast Cancer Society.

The bags cost $95. Get them online at www.beijobags.com. Don't know if they'll be available at Spree. If I hear, I'll pass along word.

Monkee's raises money for breast cancer

Monkee's has a new way for shoppers to get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness month. The women's clothing and shoe store chain has started a month-long fundraiser in the hope of raising $20,000 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Care.

All of Monkee's 19 stores are working together on the "We Wear Pink" campaign by selling pink and black "We Wear Pink" car decals for a minimum donation of $2. T-shirts with the same logo will be available for a minimum of $12. All of the contributions go to Susan G. Komen. Donate online here.

eDressme.com's pink sale

All pink dresses at the fashion Web site eDressMe.com are 10 percent off today through Oct. 31 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And an additional 10 percent of each sale will be donated to charity.

Beleza's pink and orange sale

All women's accessories that are pink or orange at Beleza in Cameron Village are 20 percent off throughout October.

And here's an added incentive for buying something in pink: The store will donate 20 percent of the item's price to the Kay Yow breast cancer fund in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
