Sarah Palin's Alaska (9pm, TLC) - It's the debut of Sarah Palin: Reality Star. In the first episode of Palin's new reality series, the former Alaska governor goes salmon fishing with her family, and she and Todd visit Denali National Park. Maybe at some point we check out that famous view of Russia from her house. We didn't get an advance copy of the show, so we have no review. But there are plenty of them out there, like this one (Time magazine), or this one (LA Times), or this one (The New Yorker). You can also check out these photos from the show.

Bored to Death (10pm, HBO) - In the second season finale, Jonathan (Jason Schwartzman) asks Drake for help in catching Ray's (Zach Galifianakis) stalker before the Broooklyn Comic Con, and George (Ted Danson) stands up for his principles at the magazine.

The Walking Dead (10pm, AMC) - Against his better judgement, Rick heads back to Atlanta to recover his cache of guns and ammo left behind when the zombies dragged him off that poor horse (RIP, horsie). He also, for some reason, hopes to retrieve the violent bigot left behind during the escape. I'm assuming at least part of him will be where they left him, right?

Sherlock (9pm, UNC-TV) - The final installment this season finds Holmes challenged by a deranged bomber who straps his devices onto innocent people before having them call the detective with a series of difficult mysteries to solve in order to gain their freedom. Sherlock: A Study in Pink (9pm, UNC-TV) - This witty "Masterpiece Mystery" series reimagines the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle sleuth as a "high-functioning sociopath" (Benedict Cumberbatch) in modern-day London who draws Afghanistan war vet Watson (Martin Freeman) into his orbit when they're paired together as potential flatmates by a mutual acquaintance. The pair's first case involves suicides that stump Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and a mysterious man who calls himself Sherlock's "arch-enemy."

Dexter (9pm, Showtime) - Dexter must deal with his unwanted conspirator while wondering if Rita's death and Harrison's exposure to it may have had a subconscious impact on the infant. Bored to Death (10pm, HBO) - A poet-limo driver and his wife need Jonathan's help to shore up their relationship, and newly successful Ray (Zach Galifianakis) has a meeting with Kevin Bacon.

Deb has a frightening experience with a murder suspect in the Santa Muerte homicides, and Quinn uncovers more striking similarities between Kyle Butler and Dexter Morgan.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Failing to get an audience with Nucky, who is preoccupied with the upcoming St Patrick's Day festivities, Margaret goes to Van Alden with a tip about secret shipments of beer. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Jimmy takes care of his girl, who was brutally attacked by gangsters in revenge for Capone's attempts to take over their territory. A preview of tonight's episode.

Boardwalk Empire: "I ain't buildin' no bookcase."

Here's a look inside this past weekend's episode of "Boardwalk Empire," and one of the most powerful scenes from the series to date. Chalky White (played by "The Wire's" Michael Kenneth Williams) interrogates the Grand Cyclops of the Atlantic City KKK to find out who lynched a young man who worked for him. Chalky tells the Cyclops a story about his father, a carpenter.

Also, Lucky Luciano finds a surprise on a visit to Jimmy's apartment and Chalky White (Michael Kenneth Williams, right) tries to solve a murder.

Rubicon (9pm, AMC) - Believe it or not, last week's "Rubicon" had pulse-pounding action and suspsense. There are only two episodes left counting tonight's, in which API works with the FBI and CIA to stop a terrorist strike. Also, Kale Ingram turns to an unlikely source to try to keep Katherine out of harm's way. And we assume Will is now sleeping with one eye open.

"Boardwalk Empire" airs on HBO on Sunday nights at 9pm.

HBO's "Boardwalk Empire": As wonderful as it ought to be

It's not exactly going out on a limb to proclaim an HBO series executive-produced by Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter ("The Sopranos") and starring Steve Buscemi to be "wonderful." But really, it is. It is so wonderful.

The Academy Award-winning Scorsese even directed the first episode of "Boardwalk Empire," which premieres tonight, and you can tell. I've watched the first several episodes and the show so far feels like one long, delicious Scorsese film in serial form. There's beautiful cinematography, superb performances, and brutal, unflinching violence.

It's perhaps inevitable that "Boardwalk" be compared to "The Sopranos," given all the production and casting connections, plus the subject matter of New Jersey gangsters. But it has a decidedly more epic feel, in part because the backdrop --  Prohibition -- is the genesis of organized crime as we came to know it in movies like "Godfather" and "Goodfellas," and yes, in "The Sopranos."

What to Watch on Sunday: "Gates" and "Food Truck" finales, "Boardwalk" debut

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Tonight is the Martin Scorsese-directed debut of HBO's new drama set in Atlantic City at the dawn of Prohibition. Steve Buscemi (left) plays Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, who controls the booze going through the town. Read our review and make a date to tune in.

Great Food Truck Race (9pm, Food) - In tonight's season finale, not only do we find out of Grill 'Em All can beat the undefeated and seemingly undefeatable Nom Nom Truck for the top prize, but also learn officially if Durham's Only Burger truck won the network's online food truck contest.

The Gates (9pm, ABC) - Two new back-to-back episodes end out the first season (the show is currently waiting to hear if they'll get picked up for a second). In the first episode, Buckley and Vanessa make a decision that has ramifications for the entire community. At 10pm, the Monohans prepare to leave The Gates, but Charlie complicates things by running away with Andie. Also, the Radcliffes persue Devon, who has the means to destroy their entire race.

Fantasia for Real (10pm, VH1) - Fantasia's reality show gets even more real in the second season. In the opener, Fantasia has everyone moved out of her house and Aunt Bunny confronts her about tabloid rumors concerning her love life.

HBO's new "Boardwalk Empire" has Scorsese stamp (VIDEO)

Long before we see "Game of Thrones," HBO will debut the highly-pedigreed "Boardwalk Empire." This one stars Steve Buscemi and the pilot is directed by Martin Scorsese (who is also one of the show's producers). "Boardwalk" is written by Terence Winter, an Emmy-winning writer of "Sopranos." It's set in Prohibition-era Atlantic City, and Buscemi plays a crime boss and politician who runs the town. "Boardwalk Empire" debuts in September.
