What to Watch on Sunday: 'Boardwalk Empire' season ends, mid-season ender for 'Walking Dead'

Downton Abbey (3pm, UNC-TV) - If you've heard about it but haven't seen it, now's your chance to catch up. There's a marathon of Season 1 starting today at 3, with all four parts running back-to-back. A Season 2 marathon takes place next Sunday.

The Christmas Heart (8pm, Hallmark) - Neighbors in a close-knit community realize their Christmas tradition of lighting luminaries cold help a teen receive a heart transplant.

The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - Tonight's mid-season finale, a situation at Woodbury throws inhabitants for a loop and forces Andrea to take charge, while a new threat arises at the prison. Expect some shocks and a nice little cliff-hanger. Season resumes in mid-February.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - In the Season 3 finale, Nucky sacrifices a key asset to Rothstein in an effort to disrupt the Rosetti-Masseria alliance and take control of Atlantic City once again. Meanwhile, Chalky and Capone are unlikely allies in the war against Masseria. That Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale, right) is one crazy bastard. I almost hope he survives for Season 4.

CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute (9pm, CNN) - Anderson Cooper hosts the sixth annual salute to everyday people for their work improving the world. Celebrity presenters and performers appear.

Finding Mrs. Claus (9pm, Lifetime) - Santa's neglected wife goes to Las Vegas to help a girl with a Christmas wish. When Santa finds out, he travels to Vegas to make amends and ends up putting Christmas at risk.

Revenge (9pm, ABC) - Nolan must face an element from his past, while Daniel's position at his family's company is questioned.

Oprah's Next Chapter (9pm, OWN) - Oprah talks to Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln (also known as Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field).

The Good Wife (9:30pm, CBS) - Will defends a man accused of murder, and Alicia attempts to influence the outcome of the case by assisting a prosecutor in a nearby county who is trying another man for the same crime.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - Brody and Walden develop a chink in their political relationship, and it may impact their future. Elsewhere, Dana and Finn come to an understanding, and Carrie discovers she is not as looped in as she thought.

What to Watch on Sunday: Hiding out with Nucky and Chalky on 'Boardwalk Empire'

Downton Abbey Revisited (8pm, UNC-TV) - Angela Lansbury hosts a look back at the first two seasons of "Downton Abbey," plus a look ahead at Season 3 (which comes to the U.S. in January). Includes interviews with the show's creators and cast members.

2012 Soul Train Awards (8pm, BET) - Cedric the Entertainer hosts the 25th annual gala, at which Don Cornelius and New Edition receive special tributes. Performers include Raphael Saadiq, Ne-Yo, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, 2 Chainz and others.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Nucky and Eddie hide out with Chalky when Gyp descends on Atlantic City, where his band of thugs takes over the Artemis Club, forcing Gillian to reconsider her business model.

Liz & Dick (9pm, Lifetime) - The tumultuous love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton gets a very sorry retelling in this Lifetime movie starring Lindsay Lohan and Grant Bowler. Don't believe me? Read this review from Adrienne.

The Good Wife (9pm, CBS) - Alicia and Diane agree to let a famous liberal lawyer to assist them on a case, but they soon realize that he may not have their client's best interests in mind. Meanwhile, Alicia's mother arrives seeking legal and moral support from her daughter and son.

Revenge (9pm, ABC) - An episode set in 2006 finds Victoria's mom visiting her, sparking unpleasant childhood memories for Victoria.

Oprah's Next Chapter (9pm, OWN) - Oprah sits down with Justin Bieber.

The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - The Governor seeks information, and a new arrival at the prison forces Rick to make a decision.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - Things in Brody's life are threatening to spiral out of control, forcing him to make a phone call he has been avoiding. Also, Carrie preps for a pivotal meeting and Saul teams with Virgil and Max for an assignment.

What to Watch on Sunday: 'The Good Wife' goes to Washington

The Simpsons (8pm, Fox) - After Grandpa takes it on the lam from the retirement home, a frantic Homer and Marge try to track him down. Their search uncovers some surprising secrets from his past, including the revelation that he once worked at a restaurant with the late Marvin Hamlisch (who provides his own voice) and fell in love with a singer there.

The Men Who Built America (8pm, History) - In the final part of this series, the American landscape is altered by the emergence of the railroad, oil and steel industries.

The Good Wife (9pm, CBS) - Alicia and Cary (Matt Czuchry, right) travel to Washington to represent a comedian (Christina Ricci, right) who is being sued by a TV network for indecency. While there, Cary has an uneasy reunion with his father. Back in Chicago, Diane and Will question Clarke's latest strategy to help the firm get out of debt.

The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - Rick struggles with losing Lori (Rick, Rick, Rick. Does anyone care about poor Carl!?). At Woodbury, Michonne has her suspicions about the Governor, who throws a party with an unusual twist.

What to Watch on Sunday: A wild night on 'The Walking Dead'

SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden (8pm, NGC ) - The National Geographic Channel offers a dramatization of the raid that resulted in the May 2, 2011 killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade (8pm, Hallmark) - A woman who is planning a Thanksgiving parade in Chicago clashes with a consultant brought in to keep the event's expenses in check. But then, you guessed it: sparks fly.

Call the Midwife (8pm, UNC-TV) - In the Season 1 finale, Sister Monica Joan develops pneumonia and is later accused of theft, with the very real possibility of being jailed. Also, Chummy's mother visits to meet her new beau.

Once Upon a Time (8pm, ABC) - Emma embarks on a dangerous adventure with Captain Hook as they climb up a beanstalk to snatch a magical compass from a deadly giant.
 
The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - Lives are endangered when those at the prison get separated. Meanwhile, in Woodbury, Merle makes an appeal to the Governor. It's going to be a seriously crazy night, so watch live. If you dare.

Dexter (9pm, Showtime) - Debra befriends a local crime writer who claims to have incriminating info on Hannah McKay, while Dexter grows closer to the black widow killer.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Van Alden makes good on a debt and Billie looks to transition from stage to screen.

Left to Die (9pm, Lifetime) - An American woman on vacation in Ecuador is falsely accused of drug trafficking and imprisoned. Meanwhile, her daughter vigilantly works to get her mother released.

The Good Wife (9:30pm, CBS) - Alicia represents a female military officer who accuses a civilian contractor of attempting to rape her in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, a surprising new obstacle appears in Peter's path to become governor.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - Brody agrees to team with Carrie and Quinn to prevent an attack on the U.S., but his loyalty is called into question when a violent engagement occurs in Gettysburg. Also, Dana gets a shock when she visits a hit-and-run victim in the hospital.

What to Watch on Sunday: Emmy Awards and a new season of 'Treme'

Primetime Emmy Awards (8pm, ABC) - Jimmy Kimmel hosts the 64th annual awards show tonight. HBO's 81 nominations are more than any other network, although everything for "Hemingway & Gelhorn" should be nullified. "American Horror Story" and "Mad Men" are the leading shows, with 17 nominations each. Presenters include Louis C.K., Ricky Gervais, Ginnifer Goodwin, Mindy Kaling, Jim Parsons and Amy Poehler.

Hell on Wheels (9pm, AMC) - The aftermath of the tragedy leaves Lily and Cullen struggling to maintain order, while Elam plan for the future.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Eli gets out of jail but he clashes with his new boss as he settles into a different line of work. Meanwhile, Gyp Rosetti takes an interest in the route between Atlantic City and New York, and Chalky helps his daughter map out her future.

Treme (10pm, HBO) - Season 3 begins in the fall of 2007, as the neighborhood is shocked by police officers' response to a brass-band procession for a fallen musician. Also, Delmond (Rob Brown, right) and Albert (Clarke Peters, right) experience different reactions to their new album, Toni finds a new ally in her ongoing crusade for justice, and LaDonna is uncomfortable in her temporary lodgings.

Copper (10pm, BBC America) - Corcoran and O'Brien investigate a double homicide, and the evidence reveals that the crimes are part of a revenge plot gone wrong.
 
Breaking Amish (10pm, TLC)
- The cast grow more comfortable in the city when they get wardrobe makeovers and tattoos. Kate and Rebecca mull modeling careers, but surprise visits by Abe's and Rebecca's families could squash that.

What to Watch on Sunday: New 'Boardwalk Empire' season begins, 'Weeds' series ends

Note: Starting tonight and continuing through football season, CBS is pushing Sunday shows to 7:30, beginning with "60 Minutes." There could still be delays, so DVR accordingly.

Leverage (9pm, TNT) - Two new episodes air tonight. In the first, Eliot, Hardison and Parker team up with a colonel to thwart a terrorist's plot to launch a biological attack on Washington. In the second, Sophie is charged with stealing a valuable painting and Nate tries to clear her name.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) -The Season 3 premiere begins on New Year's Eve in 1922, but gangster Gyp Rosetti isn't in a celebratory mood after hearing Nucky's plans to alter his business model. Also, Richard mentors Tommy Darmody and Margaret tours a new hospital made possible by Nucky's fortune. Meanwhile, in Chicago, Irish mobster Dean O' Banion angers Al Capone, and Van Alden hopes for a career boost.

Hell on Wheels (9pm, AMC) - Despite righting to save his own life, Durant must try to keep the railroad from going under.

The Great Food Truck Race (9pm, Food) - The four remaining teams arrive in Nashville and prepare a picnic for the country music duo Joey + Rory. Later, two members of each team must sit out of a challenge while their teammates train culinary students to do their jobs.

Weeds (10pm, Showtime) - In the one-hour series finale, the Botwins have returned to Agrestic (renamed Regrestic) to try to reboot their pot business. Will Nancy and Andy be together when the credits roll?

Copper (10pm, BBC America) - A gang's scheme to rob the wealthiest families in New York is uncovered, and Corcoran is charged with protecting patrons at an upscale fundraiser.

What to Watch on Sunday: 'Boardwalk Empire' finale and new 'Luck' for HBO

The Christmas Pageant (8pm, Hallmark) - A hot-tempered theater director (Melissa Gilbert) from New York City reluctantly takes a job directing a small-town Christmas pageant. During her stay, she runs into an old flame (Robert Mailhouse) and begins to warm up to the townspeople and their traditions.

Amazing Race (8pm, CBS) - The final three teams finish the race in Atlanta, and one team claims the $1 million prize.

Once Upon a Time (8pm, ABC) - Someone in Storybrooke dies while another resident begins to remember the fairy tale past.

Dexter (9pm, Showtime) - Dexter develops a macabre scheme to apprehend the Doomsday Killers.

Real Deal (9pm, History) - Up for grabs tonight: a Harry Houdini autograph and "The Last Waltz" album autographed by Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Features Raleigh auctioneer Jason McCoon, Another episode airs at 9:30.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - In the Season 2 finale, Nucky's trial approaches and a broken Jimmy starts thinking about reconciling with his old mentor. Meanwhile, Margaret mulls an offer from Esther Randolph that will have momentous consequences. Last week's episode was crazy intense (and just plain crazy!), and tonight's season-ender should be as well.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - After the explosion, Saul finds a manic Carrie hospitalized and realizes there may be merit to her wild theories.

Luck (10pm, HBO) - A sneak peek at a new HBO drama series about the world of horse racing, focusing on owners, jockeys, trainers, and gambler. Stars Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, and Dennis Farina.

Hell on Wheels (10pm, AMC) - Durant challenges the Cheyenne to a competition in an effort to bring a halt to ongoing negotiations, while Elam and Cullen try to prevent bloodshed in town.

What to Watch on Sunday: A family crisis on 'The Good Wife'

Once Upon a Time (8pm, ABC) - David (aka Prince Charming) must make a choice between Mary Margaret or Kathryn. Last week's backstory on Jiminy Cricket was crazy dark, right? Yikes.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Jimmy recalls his time at college, and Nucky and Margaret discuss how to make the best of a potentially bad situation.

The Good Wife (9pm, CBS) - A routine arbitration turns into a battle between Alicia and Louis Canning (Michael J Fox), but when Alicia's daughter Grace goes missing, she and Louis find they have more in common than they believed. A tense episode with lots of Chris Noth camera time. Jennifer Carpenter ("Dexter") guest stars as Alicia's new client.

Dexter (9pm, Showtime) - Dexter races to identify the Doomsday Killers' next victim, while Debra's surprising reaction to a crime scene makes her wonder if she depends too much on her brother.

Neverland (9pm, Syfy) - A gang of young pickpockets snatches a magical orb that transports them into a fantastical realm in the debut of the miniseries set before Peter Pan met Wendy and Hook became a captain. Part one of two parts.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - Walker's Washington contact is identified by Carrie and Saul, but the target is protected via diplomatic immunity.

All-American Muslim (10pm, TLC) - The Fordson High football team plays its season opener during the holy month of Ramadan, when most of the team is still fasting.

Chef Roblé & Company (10pm, Bravo) - A new culinary reality series based on the experiences of Brooklyn-based chef Roblé Ali as he tries to launch a catering business with this commanding big sister.

What to Watch on Sunday: Get your gross-out zombie fix on "The Walking Dead"

Once Upon a Time (8pm, ABC) - Emma helps a pregnant woman escape from Mr. Gold (aka Rumpelstiltskin). Speaking of the spindly swindler, Cinderella makes a mistake in the fairy tale world when she strikes a bad deal with him.

The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - While searching the woods for clues, Daryl is seriously injured and set upon by zombies. Meanwhile, Glenn believes he is getting romantic signals from Maggie, but then isn't so sure, and Herschel makes it clear the travelers are fine to stay on the farm for now, but not indefinitely.

Desperate Housewives (9pm, ABC) - Chuck begins to harass Bree as his suspicions about her role in Alejandro's disappearance grow. Also, Lynette devises a plan to salvage her marriage as her 22nd wedding anniversary nears.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Nucky turns to Arnold Rothstein for political advice in the aftermath of a personal loss, but Eli remains unsure of his brother's motives.

Homeland (10pm, Showtime) - Carrie and Brody spend a weekend in the countryside, which ends up complicating their relationship further.  

All-American Muslim (10pm, TLC) - This new series about five Muslim-American families living in Dearborn, Michigan, begins with a Catholic man considering a conversion to the Islamic faith of his girlfriend, which causes friction with his mother.

The Good Wife (10pm, CBS) - Alicia tries to win a stay of execution for a guilty man because he has information that could keep another one of her clients from a murder conviction. Meanwhile, Eli races to get ahead of a client's potential scandal. MSNBC host Chris Matthews guest stars as himself.

What to Watch on Sunday: New movies and a new AMC series

Once Upon a Time (8pm, ABC) - Tonight we get the backstory of how Snow White met Prince Charming. Meanwhile, Emma and Henry encourage Mary Margaret to read to the comatose John Doe from the fairy tale storybook.  

Trashopolis (8pm, Smithsonian Channel) - The premiere of a new five-episode series that looks at how major cities like New York and Paris have risen and flourished because of their garbage. Tonight's episode focuses on New York City. Subsequent weeks look at Cairo, Paris, Rome, and London.

Mistletoe Over Manhattan (8pm, Hallmark) - In this new Hallmark movie, Mrs. Claus takes a job as a nanny for a couple going through a divorce. While she attempts to repair the duo's marriage, she also tries to prove that the Christmas spirit still exists to her own husband.

Page Eight (9pm, UNC-TV) - This Masterpiece Contemporary offering is about an aging MI5 analyst (Bill Nighy) who discovers information about a possible international scandal in a top secret file that his best friend and boss (Michael Gambon) shares with him. At the same time, his suspicions are aroused by a beautiful neighbor (Rachel Weisz) and the over-eager would-be suitor (Tom  Hughes) pursuing her. Felicity Jones also stars.

John Sandford's Certain Prey (9pm, USA) - Police chief Lucas Davenport (Mark Harmon) hunts down a mysterious hit woman while being pursued himself by a serial killer. Based on the novel by John Sandford.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Margaret has a family reunion and Van Alden must come to terms with the hierarchy of the law.

The Walking Dead (9pm, AMC) - Shane's deadly sacrifice leads to some understandably strange behavior. I don't think you come back from something like that...

Hell on Wheels (10pm, AMC) - The pilot episode of a new series about a former Confederate soldier (Anson Mount) and his quest for revenge on the Union troops who killed his wife. In tonight's episode, the soldier heads west to take a job helping to build the first transcontinental railroad. It pains me to say I didn't care for it.
