Reminder: Blu Seafood's New Orleans dinner

Reminder: Durham's Blu Seafood and Bar has a special dinner this Wednesday. At 7 p.m., they will be serving up four courses of New Orleans-inspired meal plus wine pairings chosen by the folks at Hope Valley Bottle Shop. It costs $45.

Blu Seafood offers special dinners

Durham's Blu Seafood and Bar has set two upcoming special dinners:

  • 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, New Orleans wine dinner, four courses plus wine pairings for $45. Seating is limited, so reservations are required.
  • 5-10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, Third Annual Lobster Night.  They serve whole Maine lobsters fresh with sides for a dinner.  As always, the more people reserve, the more lobsters they order and the lower the price.  They typically get the price down to $25.

Blu's next themed wine dinner: Jaws

Durham's Blu Seafood and Bar has once-a-month themed wine dinners. The themes have ranged from the 1980s to Sex in the City. This month's is the movie Jaws.

The cost is $45 for four-courses paired with wine. The dinner is 7 p.m. June 16.

The courses include: seafood roll with lobster, shrimp, and crab; fried calamari with spicy tartar sauce; New England-style Mako shark with creamed corn, apple-wood bacon and onion rings; and blu-berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Casablanca wine dinner at Blu Seafood

Blu Seafood and Bar has a "Casablanca Wine Dinner – a Culinary Tour of the Moroccan Coast" next Wedneday at 7 p.m. Four courses plus wine for $45. 

The menu is :

  • Spicy shrimp with tomatoes with red onions, feta and fried chickpeas
  • Pan Roasted catch of the day with curry, citrus and mango chutney
  • Braised leg of lamb with Moroccan couscous and spiced carrots
  • to-be-determined dessert.

Kentucky Bourbon dinner at Blu

Durham's Blu Seafood is hosting a Kentucky-inspired dinner on April 28, just in time for the derby. For $50, you get four courses, each served with a bourbon cocktail.

The courses include baked brie with toasted almonds and maple syrup, Kentucky hot brown (roasted turkey, mornay sauce, tomato and bacon), smoked mutton with lima bean, corn and red wine jus, and pecan pie with bourbon caramel. 

Dinner starts at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are required. Call 286-9777.

Soup fundraiser for Urban Ministries

Durham chefs will be serving up soup March 5 to raise money for Urban Ministries.

The event called Empty Bowls '10 raises funds for the Durham non-profit, which provides hot meals and food pantry for those in need. 

Soup will be served 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, March 5 at the Durham Armory, 220 Foster St. Durham.

Tickets cost $30 each, which includes a one-of-a-kind keepsake bowl made by a local artist. Or you can purchase tickets for $15 to just eat soup without the keepsake bowl. Children ages 6 and under eat free. To order tickets, call 682-0538 or click HERE

A panel of judges and the public will each pick their own favorite soup among those served. The restaurants that will serve soup, include Blu Seafood & Bar, Papa Mojo's Roadhouse, Revolution and Nana's.

Looking for Mardi Gras plans?

Blu Seafood and Bar is offering a special Mardi Gras menu for Fat Tuesday, Feb. 16.

From 5 p.m. - 10 p.m., the Durham restaurant will be serving: 

  • Gulf oysters for $4.50 a half-dozen or $8 a dozen
  • Shellfish and sausage gumbo for $8
  • Crawfish by the pound for $12 or half pound for $6
  • Fried oysters and cajun remoulade for $7.50
  • Crawfish and shrimp etouffee for $17.50

Florida Stone Crab dinner at Blu Seafood & Bar

Blu Seafood and Bar in Durham is offering a Florida stone crab dinner on Nov. 4.

The event will follow the example of their lobster nights. So the price will be set by how many people make reservations; the more people make reservations, the lower the price will be for the stone crab platters.
