On the Recruiting Front: Track stars signed for college

Several of the area's best track and field athletes already know where they are going to be competing next season, but made their decision soon after the Feb. 2 signing day. We've listed those committments below, as well as some of the career highlights for each.

Northern runner wins Gatorade

Northern Durham senior Blake Williams of Northern High School is the 2010-11 Gatorade North Carolina Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Three area runners qualify for National Footlocker meet

On Saturday, four area runners placed in the top 10 at the National Footlocker South Regional Cross Country meet in Charlotte, which qualifies them for the National Footlocker Cross Country Meet in San Diego on Dec. 11.

Green Hope sweeps 4-A cross country

Cary Green Hope swept both the men's and the women's team titles in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A cross country championships at Beeson Park on Saturday.
                  Green Hope's men's team outran Hope Mills South View to take the title, with 80 points to 122 for South View. Asheville T.C. Roberson was third with 160 and Winston-Salem Mount Tabor captured fourth with 164 points.
                   Senior Blake Williams of Northern Durham was the individual 4-A champ in 15:29.38, just over 11 second ahead of runner-up Chris Garrett of West Johnston. Ryan Walling of Green Hope was the top finisher for the state champs, placing sixth overall and third among those scoring points.
                  The Green Hope women had an easier time, with an outstanding score of 34 to 115 for runner-up Watauga. Five of the top 12 scoring runners represented Green Hope.
