It's the Black Eyed Peas' world, we just live in it

Say this for the Black Eyed Peas: Their party-down chants might be the epitome of lowest-common-denominator brain viruses; but they sure do aim high, nevertheless.

"We went into this knowing we want to be a group like U2, to have that kind of longevity," said Jaime "Taboo" Gomez in a recent interview. "Bono can step out and do his own thing, Edge can step out -- but they always come back and give the world that U2 experience. The rest of our career, whether we're branching out into movies or clothing lines, shoes, books, whatever, whether it's Black Eyed Peas as a whole or individual expressions of ourselves, so be it."

For lots more, and details about the Peas' Raleigh show, see the story in Friday's paper.

ADDENDUM (2/20/10): See this very nice photo gallery from the show, and here's a review.

Even in a bad real estate market, shrimp will be served

"Ladies and gentlemen, let's go eat some shrimp."

So said Steve Stroud, chairman of NAI Carolantic Realty, at the tale end of the company's 25th annual Triangle commercial real estate conference held Wednesday at the RBC Center.

The thousands who had filled a section of the arena then made their way towards said shrimp while the Black Eyed Peas song "I Gotta Feeling" played over the arena's loud speakers.

The promise of shrimp ... the uplifting music ... it was enough to make you think for a second that it was 2006 all over again.

Just for a second, of course.

What to Watch on Saturday: January Jones and Black Eyed Peas on SNL

Everything She Ever Wanted (8pm, LMN) - Lifetime Movie Network's adaptation of this Ann Rule book is something else. Adrienne calls it "maybe the best Lifetime Movie ever!" Read her full review and tune in (tonight is part one of two parts). Stars Gina Gershon.

Wanda Sykes Show (11pm, Fox) - As of Friday night, Wanda's website had no info about her guests this week. We're watching anyway and hoping it's better than last week's spotty debut.

Saturday Night Live (11:30pm, NBC) - Last week's solid show makes me hopeful. Tonight's guest host is January Jones (right), who plays the cold-as-ice Betty Draper on "Mad Men." Musical guest, Black Eyed Peas. Sounds promising. Don't let me down, SNL.

Austin City Limits (12:30, UNC-TV) - Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel perform songs from their 2009 album, "Willie and the Wheel."
