NAACP hurls insults at school board majority

The state NAACP said some pretty nasty things on Friday about members of the Wake County school board majority as they announced they had filed a complaint with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

As noted in today's article, members of the NAACP hurled charges of racism and likened the board majority to clowns, Communists, dictators and the Mafia. School board chairman Ron Margiotta's educational background was questioned and he was called "unfit" to keep his post.

"[Margiotta] doesn't even have a college degree," said NAACP Attorney Al McSurely. "They've got clowns running this school board."

Uncivil tone in Wake school debate

Civil conversation seems to be running in short supply when it comes to Wake County school issues.

As noted in today's article, you've got remarks flying on both sides about animals and the Mafia. It will likely rev up even more after today's press conference by the Rev. William Barber, president of the state NAACP.

“I think that everybody's irritated,” said Brenda Berg of the Great Schools in Wake Coalition. “I feel like they should be selling popcorn and cotton candy at these things. I went to the circus last week and it wasn't nearly as wild as the board meetings.”

NAACP complaining about Ron Margiotta's "animals" comment

The state NAACP is objecting to Wake County school board chairman Ron Margiotta calling people "animals" during Tuesday's heated meeting.

Margiotta said “here come the animals out of the cages” in response to the booing that Bill Randall, a black conservative congressional candidate, received Tuesday from supporters of the diversity policy. Randall was among the speakers who had supported the community schools resolution.

The Rev. William Barber, president of the state NAACP, has scheduled a press conference for Friday to address Margiotta’s comments.
