Biggest Loser: Raleigh native released from hospital

Our Biggest Loser correspondent, The N&O's Michelle Aldrich, gives us her recap of last night's show.

OK, so Mr. Tivo and I aren't much for reality TV. "Mad Men," "The
Office," and "30 Rock" are what we look forward to. I do like the
sub-genre of celeb-reality (i.e. "The Osbornes," "Tori & Dean,"
"Rachel Zoe") and then a few years ago, we got sucked into NBC's "The
Biggest Loser." It's overwhelmingly positive and it's the rare program
that gets real about food and weight issues in America.

Episode two kicked off with a very l-e-n-g-t-h-y recap of last week's elimination. So bye bye Alexandra - but the upside was she looked GREAT in the clip showing how well she's doing at home. (I love those.) Julio however, is the target of many dirty looks from contestants questioning his being allowed to remain. He'll have a lot to lose and prove this week.

A night of ups and downs for NC folks on "Biggest Loser"

Last night's premiere of NBC's "Biggest Loser" featured three people from North Carolina, Antoine Dove, Daniel Wright, and Tracey Yukich. Unfortunately, it didn't go so well for all of them.

The first challenge of the show involved having the 16 contestants run one mile, with the winner of the race gaining immunity from the first elimination. It would be hard enough for a lot of out-of-shape folks to run a mile, so the fact that these people (some of them weighing over 400 pounds) completed the race was pretty impressive. But the accomplishment didn't come without a few small disasters. Two of the runners ended up having to be hospitalized at the end of the race, including one of the NC contestants.

What to Watch on Tuesday: NC woman makes it to Big Brother finale

Biggest Loser (8pm, NBC) - Tonight is the season premiere and three of the sixteen folks on the show are from NC (Antoine Dove, Daniel Wright, and Tracey Yukich). They'll be working to lose weight and get back on the healthy track, and we'll be recapping the show, so check back with us tomorrow!

Big Brother 11 (9pm, CBS) - It's finally over! Jordan Lloyd (right) and Kevin compete for HoH and the winner gets to evict one person from the house. Then jury members question the final two and select a winner. Of course we're hoping Jordan, from Matthews, N.C., wins it all, but even if she doesn't, she's done amazingly well. Good job, Jordan.

Shaq Vs. (9pm, ABC) - Shaq takes on Olympic swimming machine Michael Phelps. Phelps will be heavily handicapped to give Shaq a prayer.

The Jay Leno Show (10pm, NBC) - Jay has Michael Moore, Tom Cruise, and Cameron Diaz.

Flipping Out (10pm, Bravo) - Jeff falls ill and accuses Zoila of poisoning him, so Jenni has to take over for him on job sites.

Raleigh native appears on "The Biggest Loser"

You've been reacquainted with Daniel Wright and got to know a little about Antoine Dove.

Now let us introduce you to Tracey Yukich, the third Tar Heel appearing on the latest round of "The Biggest Loser," which premieres tonight at 8.

Born and raised in Raleigh, Tracey attended Athens Drive High School. (Back then, she was Tracey Upchurch.)

The homemaker and mother of four says her parents still live in Raleigh, but Yukich lives in Allen,
Texas, because her husband is in the Marines Corps.

Dudley man wants to be "The Biggest Loser"

Last week, we featured returning NC contestant Daniel Wright from "The Biggest Loser" (which returns Tuesday on NBC at 8 p.m.)

Today we talk with Dudley's Antoine Dove, the second of three NC contestants on the show.

At 23, Antoine came to the biggest loser about 100 pounds overweight, at 367 pounds.

He says he believes that taking his quest to lose the weight public was what it was going to take to tackle it.

Willow Springs man returns to "The Biggest Loser"

With North Carolina ranking # 12 when it comes to rate of adult obesity, it should be no surprise that we've been represented a couple of times on NBC's hit "The Biggest Loser."

This year, there are 3 folks from our great state on the show, making the stories of transformation and perseverance feel a little more personal.

The contestants are Tracey Yukich, a stay-at-home mom who was born in Raleigh; Antoine Dove, who's from Dudley; and Daniel Wright from Willow Springs. The show returns Tuesday at 8 p.m. Today, a chat with Daniel.

Biggest Losers take on New York

Raleighites Heba Salama, Ed Brantley and Dave Lee, who've all been on NBC's "Biggest Loser" are featured in a New York Times article about the difficulty of maintaining their healthy eating at home, mostly because of the learning curve in the kitchen.

Check it out here.

Wright eliminated from Biggest Loser

North Carolina's own Daniel Wright was eliminated from NBC’s The Biggest Loser on Tuesday, four weeks into the show's run.

In real time, Wright, 19, has been home in Willow Springs for two months. He is still working out and losing weight — 101 pounds at last count. David Lee, 23, Wright’s best friend and partner on the orange team, was eliminated the first week. Lee has lost 60 pounds since returning home to Fuquay-Varina.

Wright, who began as the heaviest contestant in the show's history, is still eligible for the fan favorite prize. He spoke to the N&O after his elimination. Here are some highlights. Look for more in the N&O this week.

Q&A: David from Biggest Loser 7

Fuquay-Varina's David Lee, 23, says he decided to join best friend Daniel Wright, 19, of Willow Spring as contestants on Biggest Loser 7: Couples because he lost his job and didn't have anything else lined up.

Here he talks with the N&O about his early experience on the popular NBC weight-loss show. BL7 debuts Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Q: Carolina or Duke? You know people out here have to know.

A: I'm kind of an oddball. I'm completely against Carolina but I'm kind of a Duke/State fan.

Q: Fair enough. So how are you feeling however far along you are on the show?

A: I'm doing great. I've lost some weight. I have a ways to go. I'm actually sick right now [with a cold] so I hope you're not recording this. But, no, I"m doing good.

Q: So far, what has been easy for you? What has been hard?

A: None of it has really been easy. It's a 180-degree change in lifestyle. The diet part is probably the hardest for me. The workouts are tough but I've kind of grown accustomed to them. You're trying to avoid bad things and it's a pretty extensive process.

Q: Obviously, you're trying to lose weight so you have to change how you eat and exercise. But what other things have you needed to change?

A: You have to reprogram your thoughts and actions. Being a big person, you kind of avoid things that require a lot of activity. You make excuses to sit on the couch. You have to reprogram yourself so if someone wants to do something and they ask you to come along, you say, 'Yeah." You have to be out. I've noticed a huge difference in how I feel and what I'm able to do.

Q: You and Daniel are friends so you're not alone in this but did you have other misgivings about doing this on TV?

A: Actually I've never seen the show. I don't know if I can say that. Daniel introduced me to it. I just lost my job. Daniel said, "Hey, want to go to Miami and try out for the Biggest Loser?" We got to stand in a long line, hang out in Miami, and be interviewed for 30 minutes. There were bunch of steps. Somehow two country boys from North Carolina got picked.

Q: Did you know about (Biggest Loser 6 contestants) Ed and Heba being from North Carolina?

A: No, I didn't. I found out during the process. They were also the orange team. So that's cool.

Q: What are you looking forward to?

A: I've always been big. I've been over 300 pounds ever since probably my last year in middle school. It's going to be different going back. I've never lived life as a skinny person.

Two from NC on Biggest Loser 7

Daniel Wright, 19, of Willow Spring and David Lee, 23, of Fuquay-Varina will be the newest North Carolinians featured on NBC's weight-loss competition show when Biggest Loser 7: Couples debuts Tuesday at 8 p.m.
