What to Watch on Wednesday: Benjamin Bratt on "Modern Family"

The Human Spark (8pm, UNC-TV) - Alan Alda (right) hosts a three-part series that explores what makes us humans different from other species. Alda makes a trip to the North Carolina Zoo and interviews Duke Anthropologist Brian Hare. Immediately following tonight's episode, check out the UNC-TV original production, "North Carolina Scientists Explore the Human Spark." Read more about both shows here

I Get That A Lot (8pm, CBS) - Celebrities work at everyday jobs just to freak out us regular people. For instance, Paris Hilton works at a gas station, Snoop Dogg is a parking lot attendant, and Julie Chen does time in a yogurt shop.

Modern Family (9pm, ABC) - Ah, yes. This is must-see TV: Benjamin Bratt (left) guest stars as Gloria's ex-husband and Manny's infamously unreliable dad. We'll finally see where little Manny gets his swagger. Also, Phil suffers from kidney stones and Mitchell and Cameron try to sleep-train Lily.

Cougar Town (9:30pm, ABC) - It's a sort of "Friends" reunion with Lisa Kudrow guest starring tonight a dermatologist visited by Ellie and Jules (Courteney Cox). Also, Travis begins working for Barbara.

Nip/Tuck (10pm, FX) - The show's seventh (and final) season begins, and the doctors are honored by their alma mater, The University of Miami. They also treat a man whose genetic disorder has led to self-mutilation.

What to Watch on Friday: Benjamin Bratt returns to "Law & Order"

Law & Order (8pm, NBC) - The disfigured body of a campaign workers is found with the word "FED" scrawled across his chest. Benjamin Bratt (left), who played Det. Rey Curtis from 1995 to 1999, returns tonight for one episode.

Dollhouse (8pm, Fox) - Two episodes tonight. First up, Echo is lost in the world-at-large while dealing with multiple-memory-downloads. Later, the murders of Echo's past romantic liasons may indicate the return of Alpha.

HALO Awards (9pm, Nik) - Four teenagers who have taken leadership roles in their communities are rewarded with scholarship money and other special perks. Hosted by Nick Cannon and featuring LeBron James, Alicia Keys, Hayden Panettiere, and Justin Timberlake.

A&E cancels 'The Cleaner'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, A&E has lowered the ax on "The Cleaner," the drama starring Benjamin Bratt.

The show finished what I thought was a stronger-than-the-first, 13-episode season this month.

On "The Cleaner," Bratt played a former drug addict who used extreme methods of intervention to help other addicts. With its cancellation, and the cancellation of "The Beast," the show that starred Patrick Swayze, A&E is out of the scripted drama business.

Maybe the network figured that with their hit "Intervention" they were telling the story of addiction powerfully already. And they have another hit in "Hoarders."

Still, it was nice having Bratt back on TV.

Giving 'The Cleaner' another try

Last season, I tuned into an episode of 'The Cleaner' because it stars Benjamin Bratt.

I have love for Bratt because of his stint on 'Law & Order'; I think his character's (Rey Curtis) partnership with Lenny Briscoe may be my favorite pairing.

Benjamin isn't hard to look at either.
