Kyle Byrd, rising senior, Holly Springs baseball
Kyle Byrd, a rising senior for the defending Tri-Nine baseball champion Holly Springs Golden Hawks, has committed to UNC-Asheville.
Byrd is the second Golden Hawks player to have committed to a D1 school, as teammate Carlos Rodon has committed to N.C. State. A third Hawks player, Justin Manning, could also end up in Division I.
Ben Snotherly, rising senior, Athens Drive football
While playing scholastic league baseball last night, one of our correspondents got up with Snotherly on what schools were recruiting him for football.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback said he is being recruited by Duke, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Elon and Richmond. Colleges are extremely selective with scholarships for quarterbacks, so none of the schools have offered as of yet.
Last year Snotherly threw for 2,409 yards while posting 19 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He also ran for 860 yards and 12 touchdowns.
