What to Watch on Wednesday: Obama, then Boyle

America's Got No Health Care: The Obama Press Conference (8pm) - The President's press conference on health care got bumped from 9pm back to 8pm because NBC refused to preempt "America's Got Talent."

America's Got Talent (9pm, NBC) - So, NBC didn't want to preempt their big Susan Boyle interview on their most successful summer show? Well, excuse me for being a bad American, but I don't blame them. I don't watch this show and won't be watching the Boyle interivew, but I can see where they're coming from. ABC is pushing their hit "Wipeout" from 8pm to 9pm.

Dark Blue (10pm, TNT) - It's that second episode of "Dark Blue" that we swore we would watch before deciding if this show is good or not. It's Dylan McDermott, so it gets the benefit of the doubt. Tonight, Carter (McDermott) has to get $100,000 to save Ty's cover and his life.

Durham Tech would benefit from Obama money

Durham Tech would gladly take a slice of the $12 billion in funding President Obama is doling out today through a program to increase the number of community college graduates nationwide.

Bill Ingram, Durham Technical Community College's president, said he doesn't yet know the specific mechanics of Obama's plan, but expects funding to come available to community colleges for both infrastructure and academic program needs.

The Obama administration is making the investment hoping to double the number of community college graduates to five million by 2020. That sort of growth is possible at Durham Tech, Ingram said, if resources are available to help retain students who often leave prior to completing whole programs.

And Ingram sees some symbolic value in Obama's plan as well.

"It's certainly a nice indicator that the administration recognizes the role community colleges play," he said.

Obama to unveil $12 billion plan for community colleges

President Obama today will unveil a $12 billion plan for the nation's community colleges.

The 10-year program, set to be announced this afternoon when Obama visits a community college in Michigan, will hope to get community college degrees to 5 million more students, double the current number.

Check back this afternoon for details.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Katie Holmes does her best Judy Garland

So You Think You Can Dance (8pm, Fox) - The one where Katie Holmes sings and dances like Judy Garland. UPDATE: Holmes will not appear on tonight's show. US Magazine previously reported Holmes would appear this week, but E! Online now reports that Holmes will appear on the show's finale August 6. Man, if you can't trust US, who can you trust. So we'll have to wait a few more weeks to see the Judy Garland dance number.

Gordon Ramsay's F-Word (9pm, BBC America) - British TV host Kate Garraway challenges the host to beat her recipe for bread-and-butter pudding. Then Ramsay goes hunting for wabbits.

Clean House: The Search for the Messiest House in the Country (10pm, E! Style) - If your doorbell rings, don't answer it. It could be Niecy Nash.

Questions for the President: Prescription for America (10pm, ABC) - President Obama answers questions on healthcare reform at a White House forum hosted by ABC's medical editor Timothy Johnson

Barack Obama orders Colbert's head shaved in Iraq

Stephen Colbert and "The Colbert Report" are bringing Operation Iraqi Stephen to Iraq (and Comedy Central) all this week.

On last night's first show from Iraq, Colbert greeted the troops in a camouflage suit, swinging a golf club a la Bob Hope. Colbert played a tape showing how he endured 10 hours of Basic Training in Fort Jackson, S.C., before traveling to Iraq (he packed an exfoliating loofa and his Jonas Brothers poster).

And he played a taped greeting from Sen. John McCain, who reminded troops to clean their muskets -- something he said he learned at Valley Forge.

There was also a taped message from President Barack Obama, who ordered General Ray Odierno to shave Colbert's head into an army crewcut.

Obama says "No bailout" for Conan O'Brien

Conan O'Brien got a pretty major endorsement on his second night in the driver's seat of "The Tonight Show."

Conan played a clip last night "excerpted" from the NBC special "Inside the Obama White House" in which anchor Brian Williams asks President Obama if he considered rescheduling his trip to the Middle East this week because of O'Brien's "Tonight Show" debut.

Obama praised O'Brien, who is originally from Brookline, Mass., but had a harsh warning for him:

"Stand" offers a rarely seen view of men

TV One has been really stepping up lately, distinguishing itself with some really strong projects. (Ahem, BET)

Sunday at 9 comes another great effort, "Stand," a documentary, directed and co-written by Tavis Smiley, the activist/commentator/PBS TV host.

It features Smiley and 10 friends traveling on a bus from Nashville to Memphis, talking about race, politics and history during the summer before Sen. Barack Obama became President Obama.

Obama at Notre Dame

Speaking at Notre Dame's commencement Sunday, President Barack Obama faced a controversy head-on, urging students to keep an open mind when grappling with the issue of abortion.

That's the issue that caused such a furor in the days and weeks leading up to Obama's appearance Sunday at Notre Dame, a Catholic university with a huge base of alums who disagree with the president's views on abortion rights.

He spoke to a crowd estimated at 12,000 in South Bend, at one point acknowledging that it isn't realistic to expect everyone to come to agrement on such a controversial and emotional issue.

Here's a transcript of his remarks.
