North Hills shopping center could one day become home to one of the region's most prominent solar energy farms.

The developers of the outdoor mall in Raleigh have been exploring the possibility of hosting a 250-kilowatt rooftop solar farm for about a year-and-a-half.

A project  fell through last year for lack of financing, but the mall's owners are looking at other options.

"We're out looking for other potential investors," said John Matthews, President of Baker Renewable Energy, the company contracted to install the system. "We just have to find people with money who will stick all the way through the end of the contract."

Baker Renewable Energy, the newbie green division of one of the Triangle's oldest businesses, will be installing a solar farm that will be among the biggest in the Southeast.

The Raleigh company has been selected to put in a 2.6 megawatt solar farm, covering 10 acres, at the Boeing 787 Dreamliner plant in South Carolina.

Baker Renewable, a unit of 96-year-old Baker Roofing, did not disclose the cost of the multimillion dollar project. The green division specializes in solar and wind projects.

Baker Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of Baker Roofing Company of Raleigh, is featured on a Discovery channel show tomorrow morning, highlighting some of their "green" efforts in roofing.

"Shades of Green" will take a look at some of the company's gorgeous rooftop gardens in Raleigh.

The company has made a name for itself recently by creating some amazing rooftop gardens and for other speciality projects such as reflective roofs and roofs outfitted with solar panels.

"Shades of Green" will take a look at some of Baker's urban gardens on Monday's show, including a beautiful garden atop the Quorum Center in downtown Raleigh, where Baker Roofing vice president and co-owner Frank Baker (pictured) was interviewed by the video team last summer.
