Pintful: Cool down at NC beer events this weekend

The North Carolina beer scene is hot this weekend with big events across the state. Here's a taste of what's to come:

Wet-hopped Cask Party: Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs is hosting a party at the brewery Friday for its first wet-hopped beer. The hops are 100 percent North Carolina grown and organic, picked hours before going into two casks of the brewery's India Pale Ale. The event starts at 4 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. More information here.

Big Boss Brewery Tour: 2 p.m. Saturday at Big Boss Brewing, 1249 Wicker St., Raleigh. The monthly brewery tour is a 30-minute journey through the Raleigh beer maker’s workshop. Following the tour, try three for $1 each and enjoy the labyrinth taproom and all its toys. Tour is free. More information here.

NoDa Beer Release Party: NoDa Brewing in Charlotte will debut the limited release of its Hot Pistol, a chocolate raspberry habanero stout. NCBeerGuys, Dave Tollefsen and Glenn Cutler helped craft the beer after winning NoDa's Hop Pro-Am Best in Show award. NoDa will make the beer available at noon Saturday and a limited supply will make it to Raleigh and Durham area bottle shops. In honor of the beer, NoDa will host a habanero eating contest. More information here.

Reminder: Free coupon class at the 'Got to be NC' festival

Here's a freebie I hope you won't be able to pass up.

I'll be teaching a free coupon class this Friday at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.

The class is part of the annual "Got to be NC" festival -- a celebration of all things North Carolina -- which runs this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The one-hour class, with a question-and-answer session afterward, will teach you how to save at least 50 percent at the grocery store using coupons and other savings techniques.

The class begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 17.
