As noted in today's high school notebook, four Athens Drive football players have made commitments recently.
An anti-abortion group is back protesting outside Wake County high schools today.
The Raleigh Police Department gave a permit for a group called Respect Life to picket today across the street from Athens Drive High School. Police informed Athens Drive administrators, who notified parents and students ahead of time so they wouldn't be surprised to see the protesters today.
"Mr. (Principal William) Crockett emphasizes that this is not school related and will not interrupt activities at the school," flashed across the screen during Thursday's Athens TV News broadcast. "Those who drive to school will want to be extra careful not to be distracted while driving."
Similar protests have been held outside high schools across the school district.
Athens Drive girls basketball player Blair Williams is a senior who led her Lady Jaguars team to four straight seasons with double-digit wins. But Williams’ four-year totals off the court are perhaps even more impressive.
The final four-year total of money raised for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund by Williams’ Hoops for Hope game, an event she started for her school as a freshman, is $12,155.

Athens Drive will have at least four players signing this fall with their college of choice. Three of them, Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler, Tyler Draovitch and Andrew Joyce, played on the 4-A East semifinalist boys soccer team. Vandermaas-Peeler, heading to UNC-Chapel Hill was a member of the U18 men's national team that competed in Israel in December, even scoring a goal.

RALEIGH The Millbrook gymnastics team, led by its all-around champion Hannah Sobhan, snapped a five-year reign of Lee County by winning the state gymnastics title on Saturday in the large-team division.
"We knew it was going to be really close with [Lee County]," Millbrook coach Tim Baker said. "We've gone undefeated the whole season, won the conference and won the state, so we're happy."


Lee County won Friday's Tri-Nine Conference gymnastics meet while Athens Drive sophomore Alyssa Tucker took home individual all-around honors. Click "Read More" to view the rest of the scores posted.
The Chatlee Shootout, a boys and girls basketball tournament in Sanford, has been delayed a day. The dual eight-team brackets will begin Tuesday and end Thursday.
UPDATE: Tournament postponed a day, will start on Dec. 28.
Athens Drive will host a four-team girls basketball holiday tournament. The four teams involved are Athens Drive, East Wake, Cardinal Gibbons and Wake Forest-Rolesville.

Athens Drive's Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler was named to the USA's U-18 men's soccer team and will compete this week in Tel Aviv, Israel.
