N.C. State received a commitment this weekend from tight end Asa Watson of Rock Hill, S.C.
Watson (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) is the younger brother of New England Patriots tight end Ben Watson and is the fourth of Rev. Ken Watson's six children.
Asa Watson is an exceptional student with an overall grade point average of 4.3. He recently received the academic award for the highest GPA on the South Carolina team in the Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas.
Watson chose State over Duke, where Ben attended for one year before transferring to the University of Georgia, and Maryland, where Ken Watson played 1974-78.
Ken Watson said State's players sold Asa on State.
"Asa was really impressed with the State players," Reverend Watson said. "He gelled with the players. I think that was the difference."
Asa Watson did not have outstanding receiving statistics at Rock Hill, but he was rarely thrown to. He is an outstanding blocker and is rated as a two star player by rivals.com and a four-star player by scout.com.
