UNC women’s soccer savors improbable championship

UNC is used to winning national championships in women's soccer, but not to the kind of journey the Tar Heels traveled for their 22nd national title. SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE

CHAPEL HILL — After a 4-1 victory against Penn State on Sunday in San Diego, the North Carolina women’s soccer team has now won 22 national championships. This championship run, though, was unlike any other in school history.

Notre Dame women's soccer bests UNC 4-1

CHAPEL HILL — In a classic NCAA women’s soccer rivalry that North Carolina has mostly dominated, there was a familiarity to Notre Dame’s 4-1 victory in the third round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday.

While the Heels had prevailed in three of the previous four consecutive postseason meetings, the Irish did win a third round match at Fetzer Field in 2007.

UNC women's soccer advances

For the second time in three days, North Carolina women's soccer beat Maryland.

There was more riding this time on chilly night at WakeMed Soccer Park, where the Tar Heels won 3-0 in the final of four first round games in the ACC Women's Soccer Championship.
