Another awards show, another nomination for Scotty

It’s becoming a bit old hat for Scotty McCreery — another country music association announces award nominees, and the Garner High School student is a contender.

On Monday, CMT announced that Scotty’s music video for “The Trouble With Girls” has been nominated for “Breakthrough Video of the Year” at this year’s CMT Music Awards, to air on June 6 on the country music cable channel.

Fans can go online to vote for Scotty at www.cmt.com through June 4. Carrie Underwood – like Scotty, a former “American Idol” winner – leads the nominations with five.

Scotty’s fellow nominees in the breakthrough category have all competed against him before – Lauren Alaina, who has runner-up when Scotty won the 10th season of “Idol” a year ago; Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes, both of whom were nominated against Scotty for Best New Artist at the Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this month; and Pistol Annies and Thompson Square, both of whom were nominated against Scotty for Top New Artist in December’s American Country Awards.

Scotty McCreery takes home another big country award

Scotty McCreery picked up another fan-voted accolade last night when he was named New Artist of the Year at the 47th Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas."I’ve got to thank the fans — you guys are incredible!” said the 18-year-old Garner High School senior, who was named the winner of the 10th season of “American Idol” less than a year ago. Scotty also thanked the country music community and Jesus.

Scotty attended the three-hour ceremony, broadcast live on CBS, with his parents, Mike and Judy McCreery of Garner, and his sister, Ashley, a Charlotte college student.

He won the honor over fellow newcomers Hunter Hayes and Brantley Gilbert. Fans cast votes for their favorites over the past two weeks. Each of the three performed a snippet of a song from the Mandalay Bay resort, at a fan bash just down the street from the awards at the MGM Grand. In Scotty’s case, he apparently rushed back to the MGM from Mandalay just in time to hear his name called.

Scotty hopes his fans will come through for him again

Scotty McCreery is again hoping that his fans will come through for him in a national voting contest.

Starting today, voting began online for the Academy of Country Music’s “New Artist of the Year” Award. Scotty, the 18-year-old Garner High School senior, is one of three finalists competing for the prize.

The winner will be announced live on the 47th Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1 on CBS.

“The fans have been great to me when it comes to getting down and voting,” Scotty said in an interview last month.

State vs. Boston College.  Regular CBS programming will either air at the regularly scheduled time on WRAL2 or overnight on WRAL. American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Eliminations begin tonight. New this season: a version of Garner's Scotty McCreery singing Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me" will be played each week when a contestant is voted off. Scotty, the winner of last year's "Idol" contest, will most likely return to the show in person at some point this season.

30 Rock (8pm, NBC) - All new comedies on NBC tonight, starting with "30 Rock." Kenneth's new job pits him against Liz while Jack squares off against his teen nemesis, the sly Kaylie Hooper.

Scotty's song to serenade this season's "Idol" exits

Missing a Tar Heel presence on this season of "American Idol" now that all our North Carolinians have been eliminated?

At least you'll get to hear last year's "Idol" winner, Garner High School senior Scotty McCreery, left, when each of the remaining 13 finalists is ejected.

"Idol" producers announced today that Scotty has recorded a new version of Tim McGraw's hit "Please Remember Me," which will be played over farewell video montages when contestants are voted out. The final 13 perform live tonight, with the contestant receiving the fewest viewer votes being sent home on Thursday night's live show.

"It's always a sad time whenever this song is played, but it's definitely a really big part of the show," says Scotty, 18.

His version of the song also will be available as a single on iTunes starting Thursday.

American Idol (8pm, Fox) - Season 11's finalists perform.

Happy Endings (9:30pm, ABC) - All the other ABC sitcoms are repeats tonight, but don't forget about "Happy Endings!" Tonight, Alex and Jane try to convince Dave that he's wrong about an event that may have occurred, and Penny and Max (right) go all out to beat an irritatingly perfect couple in an annual run and scavenger hunt.

Revenge for Real (10pm, ABC) - A series about real life stories of vengeance begins with the 2001 murder of millionaire Ted Ammon in his East Hampton mansion. Cynthia McFadden talks to his convicted killer.

Awake (10pm, NBC) - A new drama about a detective who awakens after his family's car accident to discover he's alternately living in two parallel worlds. In one world, his wife survived the crash and his son died. In the other, his son is alive but his wife is dead. Which life is real? Or maybe it's neither? Who knows! This pilot is really good. Here's my "Awake" review.

Mudcats (10pm, History) - Sorry, no. This is not about the Zebulon baseball team. It's a reality show that chronicles catfish-catching crews battling for fishing territory against hundreds of amateur contestants on the lakes and rivers of Oklahoma.

Archer (10pm, FX) - Archer's sexcapades compromise his effectiveness as an agent (again) and this time, it's really serious.

FYI: ABC and CBS (except for "Rob") are all repeats tonight.

Just one Tar Heel left on "American Idol"

As "American Idol" inches closer to naming its Top 13 on Thursday, North Carolina's hopes for the next Scotty McCreery are down to just one -- country singer Chelsea Sorrell, right, of Stokesdale, just north of Greensboro.

Chelsea, 23, who also tried out for the popular singing competition last season but didn't make the voting rounds, will perform tonight, along with 11 other women hoping to make the finals. Based on viewer votes, the top 5 men and top 5 women will advance to the Top 13, along with one wildcard pick each from judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Wacky Old Uncle Steven Tyler.

Fayetteville residents had hoped David Leathers Jr. -- the baby-faced singer who had received lots of screen time earlier this season -- would make the cut as a surprise on Tuesday night's show. Producers had listed David as one of four previously ejected male singers who would be invited back.

What to Watch on Thursday: Creedmoor kid chases his 'Racing Dreams'

Racing Dreams (10pm, UNC-TV) - A wonderful POV documentary that chronicles the experiences of three kids competing for the World Karting Association national title. Two of the kids are from North Carolina, including Brandon Warren (left). I don't even like racing and I loved this documentary. Read my full review of "Racing Dreams."

Private Practice (10pm, ABC) - Sam tries to care for his sister but her mental instability makes it very difficult. Also, Sheldon learns that Amelia has life-changing news, Cooper rejects Charlotte's suggestion to seek help with Erica's care, and Addison and Jake keep flirting.
