Duke's McCallie named ACC Women's Coach of Year

For the second time in three years, Duke women's basketball coach Joanne McCallie has been selected the ACC Coach of the Year.

The fifth-year Blue Devils coach has guided Duke to its third straight ACC regular-season title and a 24-4 overall record this season. In the ACC's preseason poll, Duke was picked to finish second after losing three seniors to graduation and the WNBA.

Duke freshman Amber Henson out for season

DURHAM – Duke freshman Amber Henson will miss the remainder of the season as she undergoes knee surgery, school officials announced on Wednesday.

Henson, a 6-foot-4 forward, came to the No. 7 Blue Devils as a top 10 recruit, who along with center Elizabeth Williams as part of what many considered the nation's top recruiting class.  

Henson, whose injury has limited her playing time this season, will have surgery on Friday to stabilize her kneecap. She injured her knee while at Walter L. Sickles High in Tampa, Fla., where she became a McDonald's All-American.

Henson soon will have reason to cheer for Duke

Despite his team's 32-point loss Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium, North Carolina forward John Henson will have reason to root for Duke a couple years from now.

Well, for the women's team, that is.

Henson's sister Amber, a junior at Tampa's Sickles High, verbally committed to the Blue Devils on Sunday night, according to The St. Petersburg Times.
