What to Watch on Monday: Republican Convention starts up in Tampa

Republican National Convention - UPDATE: Isaac has really messed things up. Not much is happening in Tampa except for the storm, but if anything happens, it'll be on cable news (the major broadcast networks hadn't scheduled primetime coverage for tonight even before Isaac blew in). Today's cancelations will likely mean extended coverage Tuesday-Thursday.  Tonight's highlights include speeches from Ann Romney, South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.  Here's more information about RNC viewing.

Alphas (8pm, Syfy) - A tech whiz, played by Summer Glau, helps Rosen learn the purpose of an Alpha-enhancing technology.

Hotel Hell (8pm, Fox) - A boutique hotel in San Diego has problems with its decor (based on Ferrari sports cars), room and laundry service, and the in-house restaurant. And of course, the manager is clueless, which means Gordon Ramsey will get to yell at him. A lot.

Major Crimes (9pm, TNT) - The gang investigates a deadly car accident at a nightclub, but facts and clues are scarce. Meanwhile, harsh truths surface when Raydor tries to locate Rusty's mother.

Grimm (10pm, NBC) - Hank helps an old friend whose daughter is missing, while Nick investigates the motives involved in the girl's disappearance.

The Inbetweeners (10:30pm, MTV) - In the second episode of this funny British remake, Simon gets his driver's license, but his new car isn't likely to impress Carly.

What to Watch on Monday: Bonds tested in 'Bunheads' finale

Hotel Hell (8pm, Fox) - Gordon Ramsey visits the inexperienced owners of a historic -- and haunted -- New York hotel. The owners may lose their investment if the business isn't turned around quickly.

Wild Justice (8pm, NGC) - Bobcat kittens are released back into the wild after being rescued from a wood chipper. Meanwhile, signs of foul play are uncovered during the investigation of a mountain's lion's death, and a black-market poaching ring is busted in California.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - In tonight's "sort of" finale, Fanny (Kelly Bishop) and Michelle (Sutton Foster), right, bond as they collaborate on "The Nutcracker" recital. Michelle organizes a fundraiser and advises the girls on their boy drama, but her friendship with Fanny goes off track when some mistakes are made. Foster recently told Entertainment Weekly that the episode ends in a cliffhanger, which means it's extra great news that ABC Family just extended the season. I guess that makes tonight's show a mid-season finale instead of a season finale. Either way, more "Bunheads" so hooray!

Major Crimes (9pm, TNT) - As Raydor works to gain respect in the division, the Major Crimes crew works to crack the case of a brutal and complicated homicide. Meanwhile, Raydor tries to supervise Rusty and Provenzo struggles to accept all the changes in the department.

Perception (10pm, TNT) - Pierce is enlisted to help the FBI investigate the slaying of a therapist. Meanwhile, Moretti gets closer to Professor Hathaway and Haley uses Pierce as a pawn to get funding for a new building. TNT has already ordered a second season of "Perception."

Grimm (10pm, NBC) - Nick and his mother team up to fight the Mauvias Dentes. Meanwhile, details about Juliette's affliction come to light as Monroe and Rosalee race against the clock to save her.

Alphas (10pm, Syfy) - The team responds when Rachel gets kidnapped while visiting the hospital.

Highlights include track and field, cycling, beach volleyball quarterfinals, gymnastics finals and diving. LaShawn Merritt is expected to go for his second straight gold medal in the 400m. Tips on watching the Olympic games.

The Closer (9pm, TNT) - Who else is still getting over last week's shocker? Yikes, right? Tonight, the investigative focus is on a young couple after a decorated veteran is found dead, but Brenda's (Kyra Sedgwick, left) investigation is hampered by the meddling D.A.'s office. Most importantly, tonight we all learn the identity of the department leak. Next week is the final episode, so brace yourself.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - Fanny stuns Michelle by inviting her to a play and revealing that she has a longtime boyfriend. Meanwhile, Sasha's obnoxious behavior costs her a prized role.

Teen Wolf (10pm, MTV) - Scott must figure out a way to stop Gerard, while Allison continues her hunt for Derek and his wolves. As Larry David might say (and probably has), I'm getting pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty sick of Allison.

Locked Up Abroad (10pm, National Geographic Channel) - Two British backpackers attempt to cross from Panama to Colombia via the notoriously dangerous Darien Gap, but are captured and held hostage by Colombian guerrillas.

What to Watch on Monday: Two Syfy premieres and a 'Bachelor Pad' plague

Bachelor Pad (8pm, ABC) - The worst thing about "The Bachelorette" ending is that it means "Bachelor Pad" begins. Fifteen castoffs from "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" join five "super fans" in a Malibu mansion and begin competing for $250,000 in cash.

Bunheads (9pm, ABC Family) - This show gets better each week! Tonight, Michelle's pal visits to help her celebrate her birthday, but their festive plans get sidelined when Fanny takes off and leaves Michelle in charge of her dance classes.

Warehouse 13 (9pm, Syfy) - Following the destruction of Warehouse 13, the team races halfway around the globe in search of a dangerous artifact. This is the Season 4 premiere.

Alphas (10pm, Syfy) - Season 2 picks up eight months after last year's finale, with Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) having exposed the existence of Alphasto and finding himself descredited and imprisoned by a government desperate to cover up his revelation. Some of the team have disbanded and without Rosen's care and guidance, have regressed into old, destructive ways. A hostage situation forces them to reunite and try to save one of their own. Some of the guest stars on tap for this season include Sean Astin, C. Thomas Howell, Lauren Holly and Summer Glau. Check out the trailer for "Alphas" and a scene from tonight's premiere episode.

What to Watch on Monday: Raleigh native a favorite in 'Bachelor Pad' finale

Bachelor Pad (8pm, ABC) - This three-hour season finale begins in Las Vegas and ends in Los Angeles. The winners get $250,000, but their dignity may be lost forever. One of the finalists (and a favorite to win) is Graham Bunn, a Raleigh native who played basketball for Appalachian State University and who appeared on "The Bachelorette" in 2008. On the show (and in real life, apparently), Graham is romancing Michelle Money (from "The Bachelor," Brad Womack/Emily Maynard season), who admitted earlier this year to having an affair with former Duke star Carlos Boozer while Boozer was married.

Gaga by Gaultier (8pm, CW) - Lady Gaga is interviewed by fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris. The singer discusses her meteoric rise to fame, her unique relationship with her fans, and her love for art and fashion.

Miss Universe Pageant (9pm, NBC) - Women from around the world compete in swimsuit, evening gown and interview categories. Hosted by Natalie Morales and Andy Cohen from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Closer (9pm, TNT) - In tonight's summer finale, the team looks for clues in the shooting death of a deputy sheriff, and Brenda's civil case comes to a head when the judge must make a crucial decision. The series returns with five final episodes in November.

Rizzoli & Isles (10pm, TNT) - Maura and Jane investigate when a young man is killed in a jail bathroom just as he was about to be released from prison. Sinister serial killer Charles Hoyt (the bad guy from the show's pilot) claims to have inside knowledge about the slaying.

Bachelor Pad (8pm, ABC) - In this three-hour (THREE HOURS!?) Season 2 premiere, 18 onetime "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" contestants move into a Malibu mansion and act like total jackasses while they vie for a cash prize and of course, a chance at love. 2010 "Bachelor" couple Jake Pavelka and his estranged former fiance Vienna Girardi will be in the house.

The Closer (9pm, TNT) - The team snoop into the death of a minister, but their investigation is jeopardized by the victim's own shady secrets and the family's efforts to protect his name and their church. Also, all but one member of the unit receive a subpoena in the department's civil suit.

Superheroes (9pm, HBO) - You'll find plenty of comic book heroes on the movie screen this summer, but you won't see any like these. This award-winning documentary is about some everyday folks who dedicate their lives to being "real life superheroes" -- complete with superhero names, costumes, backstories, the whole deal. At first glance, many of these people may seem downright nuts, but as the film goes on, director Michael Barnett shows there's more to this lifestyle than a bunch of nerds running around playing dress-up. There's a lot of heart and soul in this film. It respectfully shows the true dedication of the superheroes, who in many cases are more effective at fighting apathy and helping the downtrodden than fighting actual crime. There are so many compelling characters in Barnett's film, but I promise you will never forget Mr. Xtreme or Master Legend (whose super power appears to be his raging thirst). Or Zimmer, who has the very useful power of being a trained EMT. "Superheroes" screened at San Diego Comic-Con this year. If you have HBO, check it out.

Teen Wolf (10pm, MTV) - In the first season's penultimate episode, Scott struggles to protect both his friends and enemies while also keeping his secret safe from Allison.

Alphas (10pm, Syfy) - Rachel goes on a first date that ends with a powerful kiss, and Rosen's team officially joins the Defense Criminal Investigation Service and their first case is to probe a series of deaths linked to high school in Pennsylvania.

The Big C (10:30pm, Showtime) - Lee takes Cathy to a Tibetan doctor to help lower her blood pressure for the clinical trial. Also, a jealous Paul goes to a bar with Lee and Cathy, and a grounded and bore Adam interferes with Andrea's date with Myk.

What to Watch on Monday: Final season of 'The Closer' begins

Also, Chief Delk (Courtney B. Vance) is ready to announce huge organizational changes in the department.

Man vs. Wild (9pm, Discovery) - Actor Jake Gyllenhaal embarks on a grueling arctic trek with Bear Grylls, traveling where Bear travels and eating what Bear eats. Just don't hurt that face!

Warehouse 13 (9pm, Syfy) - In the Season 3 premiere, a rock legend's guitar becomes a menace in Jersey City, and Artie and Claudia run into an ATF agent who has a knack for knowing when people are lying.

Rizzoli & Isles (10pm, TNT) - Season 2 opens with Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) recovering from last season's shooting, and being saluted as a hero at a public event. An act of violence at the tribute ceremony pulls Rizzoli back into the job, and also causes her to reconnect with a former beau, who may be able to help mend some of her emotional wounds.

Law & Order: Los Angeles (10pm, NBC) - In the series' final episode, a man is found dead at UCLA and it might be the result of protecting his sister, who is a star soccer player.

Alphas (10pm, Syfy) - In the pilot of this new series following a team of people with extraordinary abilities who investigate crimes linked to others like them, ominous messages steer a man to a building's rooftop, where he executes an improbable shooting. Our review here

"Alphas" is like the X-Men, but not first class

The easiest way to think of “Alphas” (Syfy, 10 tonight) is like a poor-man’s “X-Men” mixed with a dash of  ABC’s cancelled “No Ordinary Family.”  Sadly, “Alphas” doesn’t have the engaging start “No Ordinary Family” did; you’ll probably lose interest with this first episode.

The “Alphas” opens with Cameron Hicks (Warren Christie), a good-looking guy who works in a supermarket. We learn later that he’s a former army sniper and phenom baseball pitcher. He suddenly starts getting messages to shoot someone, and when he does, it’s pretty clear he’s under the influence of someone or something.

Next we meet Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn), a neurologist and psychiatrist and the  Dr. Xavier; apparently we’re supposed to think he’s eccentric because of his affinity for herbal remedies and skimpy swim trunks.
