All-Star weekend celebrity watch: Friday update

We noted in a story yesterday that not a ton of "big time" celebrities were scheduled to show up for All-Star events in Raleigh this weekend, but that doesn't mean there won't be a few famous faces out there. Here are some of the tips we're getting:

-Michelle Beadle (left) of ESPN’s SportsNation should be in town. At least she tweeted yesterday that she was headed this way: "Heading to Raleigh for NHL Allstar fun....hoping for a headache-free travel day. And an open bar...vacay!" Keep your eyes peeled for her.

-We've heard that "Dancing with the Stars" pro Mark Ballas may be at the All-Star Skills Competition Saturday night. We do know he was in Raleigh this week for a dance workshop and a concert at the Berkeley, and he's scheduled to perform tonight at the Center Pointe Bar & Grill in Charleston, S.C.

-Also, Miss North Carolina Adrienne Core will attend the NHL All-Star 5k Saturday morning at the RBC Center. The race starts at 9am.

If you spot or hear about any other celebrities in town, shoot me an email or tweet (@WarmTV).

Miss North Carolina a favorite to win tonight's Miss America title

I know next to nothing about the Miss America pageant, but reports are that Miss North Carolina Adrienne Core is a favorite to win tonight's coveted crown.

Core, a 2010 graduate of N.C. State and a native of Erwin in Harnett County, and also holds the titles of Miss Raleigh and Miss Fayetteville. Core already won the Miss America preliminary talent competition earlier this week with a clog dance routine to "Soul Man."

Core is the daughter of Beverly Core and the late Charles Core, who died of cancer. She works with the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research educating people about the importance of cancer research. (Great profile and interview from NC State.)

Other top contenders tonight are said to be Miss Alabama Ashley Davis, Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier and Miss Rhode Island Deborah Saint-Vil.

The pageant airs tonight at 9pm on ABC. It's hosted by Chris Harrison and Brooke Burke.
