9th annual Chefs Event at Carrboro Farmers' Market this Saturday

Head to the Carrboro Farmers' Market Saturday to sample dishes from seven local chefs.

Those chefs will be whipping up samples of dishes using market ingredients for the 9th annual Carrboro Farmers' Market Chefs Event starting at 9 a.m.

The chefs include Jeff Barney of the Saxapahaw General Store and The Eddy Pub, Kevin Callaghan of Acme, Matt and Sheila Neal of Neal's Deli, Seth Kingsbury of Pazzo!, Adam Rose of Il Palio at the Sienna Hotel and Amy Tornquist of Watts Grocery.

Chelhalem Wine Dinner at Acme

Carrboro's Acme is hosting a four-course dinner featuring Chehalem wines with winemaker Harry Peterson-Nedry, a UNC graduate, on Nov. 1.

The courses include cashew-encrusted Carolina flounder with mango over curried parsnips, oyster and scallop pie with leeks, country ham and thyme biscuit crust, pan-seared wild salmon with pear and fennel gastrique and creamed spinach and smoked local pork with wild mushroom ragout and fall corn pudding. Of course, each course is paired with wine from the Oregon's Willamette Valley winery. 

The cost is $65. To make a reservation for the 6:30 p.m. dinner, call 968-1884.

Special Events at Carrboro Farmers' Market

There are several interesting events coming up at the Carrboro Farmers' Market:

This Saturday, a seed saving workshop will occur in the gazebo. You can learn when to harvest, what tools to use, what seeds to save and go home with free packets of seeds.

Corks for Kids event in September

Corks for Kids, a two-day wine event, is set for Sept. 11 and 12.

Friday night features wine dinners with winemakers from Italy to Australia at Chapel Hill's Bin 54 and Carrboro's Acme Food and Beverage Co. The cost is $150 a person. Saturday night offers a wine tasting and auction at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill. The cost is $65 a person.
