NCSU basketball to disrupt CBS programming tonight

NC State is playing Boston College tonight at 8 p.m. on WRAL, which means regular CBS programming will be disrupted.

The plan is to replay the missed shows -- "Big Bang Theory," "Rob" and "Person of Interest" -- beginning at 1:37 a.m. at WRAL.

"The Mentalist" is still scheduled to air at 10 p.m. and if the game goes over, they will join that program in progress.

There can be exceptions, but as a general rule of thumb, this is how most game disruptions will be handled by WRAL during the regular ACC season. The local news will air in its entirety, and "Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" will air after that. If you miss any CBS shows because of an ACC game, they will likely air after Ferguson's show.

WRAL suggests you set your recording device to record the entire block from 1:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., just to make sure you get everything.

You can also check CBS.com to see if missed episodes are playing there.

Duke prepares to open ACC schedule at Georgia Tech

Duke is heading to Atlanta this afternoon for Saturday’s ACC opener against Georgia Tech (ESPNU, noon).

While the Yellow Jackets have been underwhelming so far this season – Georgia Tech has lost three games in a row, falling to Mercer (ouch), Fordham (double ouch) and Alabama by 25 points – the game will be an intriguing one for the fifth-ranked Blue Devils (12-2) after Wednesday's loss at Temple.

Ranking UNC’s ACC schedule by order of difficulty

After a disappointing – more on this in a second – non-conference portion of the season, the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball season begins this week. North Carolina, of course, hosts Boston College on Saturday.

So now’s as a good time as any to look ahead at the Tar Heels’ conference schedule which, really, doesn’t look all that formidable. And that’s the case for two reasons: One, UNC is very good. And, two, the ACC, as a whole, appears to be significantly down compared its normal standard.

Duke cruise to 85-55 win over Penn

Updated 8:48 p.m.

DURHAM -- The beginning of 2012 looked a lot like the end of 2011 for Duke.

For the second game in a row, the Blue Devils attacked an overmatched opponent from the outset to build a big early lead and cruise to a lopsided victory.

Two days after drubbing Western Michigan by 40 points, the seventh-ranked Blue Devils had their way with Penn, opening the game with a 20-4 run en route to an 85-55 win on Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Zeller's buzzer-beater lifts Heels past Miami

updated 4:52 p.m.

GREENSBORO -- Miami coach Frank Haith thought the ball was going to Harrison Barnes.

UNC forward John Henson thought the ball was going to Harrison Barnes.

Based on the freshman’s two previous game-winners this season, most of the 20,000-plus in attendance at Greensboro Coliseum probably thought the ball was going to Harrison Barnes, too.

But with the clock winding down Friday, UNC point guard Kendall Marshall drove to the basket, and passed the ball to junior forward Tyler Zeller – whose buzzer-beating layup solidified an improbable 19-point comeback and 61-59 victory in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament.

Wake Forest's season ends with 81-67 loss to BC

GREENSBORO -- Wake Forest’s forgettable basketball season came to its expected conclusion today when the Deacons were eliminated from the ACC tournament by an 81-67 loss to Boston College at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The defeat ended the Deacons’ poorest season in ACC play, leaving them with an 8-24 record and just one victory in 17 league games (including the tournament).
