CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Duke claimed its third consecutive victory over an ACC opponent on Saturday with a 28-17 victory over Virginia at Scott Stadium.
This time it took some spirited play late in the fourth quarter as the Devils scored two touchdowns and came from behind to knock off the Cavaliers. It took some guile as the Devils looked to be backed in a corner and unable to answer one of the conference's toughest defenses.
GREENSBORO - North Carolina was picked to finish atop the ACC in women's
basketball this season, according to a panel of media members, conference officials and coaches at today's Operation Basketball event.
GREENSBORO - Media members at the ACC's Operation Basketball event on Sunday placed their votes for the conference's 2009-10 predicted order of finish and it was the first time in 41 years there's ever been a tie for the first place. Duke and North Carolina both received 545 points.

Some questioned how the rule would be enforced. Some questioned the considerations made in defining the new points of emphasis.
GREENSBORO - ACC coordinator of basketball officials John Clougherty announced on Sunday at the conference's media day the NCAA's new "point of emphasis" on excessive celebration.
Clougherty said officials will have a "zero tolerance" policy with excessive player celebration on the court. He defined that type of celebration, which will result in a penalty, as unsportsmanlike. He gave the examples of a player gesturing to fans or a player dunking and hulking over another player.
North Carolina will open the College World Series against Arizona State on Sunday at 2 p.m. EDT in Omaha, Neb.
The College World Series begins Saturday. Games will be played at 2 and 7 p.m. (Eastern) each day in Rosenblatt Stadium, which seats 23,170. The double-elimination tournament will run through June 23 or 24 depending upon results in the best-of-3 championship finals.
The Tar Heels (47-16) advanced to the championship tournament for the fourth straight season with 9-3 and 10-1 wins in the super regional over East Carolina.

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina celebrated like a team on its way to its first College World Series, not its fourth straight.
The Tar Heels slung their hats and gloves skyward and jumped into a celebratory dogpile after Sunday's 9-3 win over East Carolina in the Super Regional sent them back to Omaha and the CWS for the fourth straight year.
