Today's (double) giveaway could be your guilty pleasure

Television is a tough business, and so, history is strewn with failed series.

Some failed because they were bad; others because they were before their time.

Today, we offer two giveaway 2-packs that offer the shows' full first seasons AKA the complete series.

First up, "Sherri," the short-lived Lifetime sitcom based on the life of "The View" host Sherri Shepherd. The two-DVD set includes 13 episodes plus bonus webisodes featuring Ms. Shepherd's standup comedy.

We've paired that with "Huge," an acclaimed ABC Family show that starred Nikki Blonsky as a girl who attends fat camp and her relationships and adventures there.

The second package features "Off the Map," the ABC show from the preoducers of "Grey's Anatomy." You'll get more than 500 minutes of the show about young hot doctors in the South American jungle, plus bonus features like the cast discussing jungle medicine and cures.

That comes with the complete series of "Outsourced," the NBC sitcom about an American working at a call center in India. More than 7 hours of viewing with this one, plus a gag reel.

Want in? Just email here for the first package; and here for the second. We'll take entries until 7 tonight (12/20). We'll have a random drawing.

And we won't judge.

Today's giveaway is an adventure in higher education

Yesterday, we went to high school; today we graduate to Cyprus-Rhodes University.

That's the setting of "Greek: Chapter 4," the acclaimed ABC Family series that features the members and pledges of Kappa Tau and others on Greek Row.

There are 12 episodes or more than 500 minutes of viewing, plus bloopers, a Greek recap, a behind-the-scenes look at the season finale, audio commentary. And best of all, a music video by the season's guest star Jesse McCartney! (Nah, he's not related to Paul.) Again, your young friends might be impressed.

BTW: the blonde in the middle is Kelsey Grammer's daughter Spencer.

Just send me an email by 9 tonight (12/12) and with a win in our random drawing, you'll get a degree in satisfaction.

"Friday Night Lights" pulled from ABC Family

I'm really starting to think America just doesn't get this show. The beleaguered drama about a football-obsessed small town in Texas is universally praised by critics but just can't pull decent ratings anywhere.

Starting out on NBC, "Friday Night Lights" was saved from cancelation by DirecTV, which now airs the show in its first run. The series gets a later run on NBC.

Then ABC Family picked it up in syndication this summer and had said it would air every episode and air them in order. But now TV Guide is reporting that the cable network has removed "Friday Night Lights" from its schedule, citing, you guessed it, low ratings.

It's puzzling, really. "Friday Night Lights" is an incredibly compelling portrait of small town America. The writing is solid and the acting is superb. Every single week it's hearbreaking and inspiring, funny and sad. So come on, America. Get in the game! The final season begins on DirecTV on October 27.

"Friday Night Lights" starts over on ABC Family

"Friday Night Lights" has been all over the place: NBC, DirecTV, and now ABC Family. But that's okay. We're all for spreading brilliance.

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday, September 7), ABC Family begins showing the terrific small town/football drama and will air episodes every single weeknight at 6pm. They will air every episode of "Friday Night Lights" and will air them in order.

ABC Family had to make some very minor trims to a few episodes, but nothing that should detract from the overall awesomeness of the series. More details on that at TV Squad.

If you never watched or just want to relive the greatness, go ahead and set that DVR to pick 'em all up.

A sneak peek at Bristol Palin's acting debut (VIDEO)

Bristol Palin will make her acting debut on July 5 in a teen pregnancy-themed episode of ABC Family's drama, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."

Time magazine says it's not so much acting as "standing very still and saying lines," but you can see for yourself.

ABC Family picks up "Friday Night Lights"

Great news. The ABC Family channel has acquired the rights to all five seasons of the excellent NBC drama, "Friday Night Lights."

FNL premiered on NBC in 2006, but never grabbed a big audience. By the end of the second season, the only way NBC would give the show another shot was through a deal with DirecTV in which the satellite company would have first dibs on the episodes, and then NBC would run them later. That's how the third and fourth (current) seasons have aired, and that's how next season will work as well.

Next season, Season 5, will be the show's last. Season 5 will air on DirecTV in the fall of this year and on NBC in the spring of 2011.

The show will be a nice fit on ABC Family, which will begin showing Season 1 in September of this year.  If you've never seen this show or if you just want to see it again, please circle September on your calendar. You won't regret it.
