This fall family classic, proceeds from which benefit the local YMCA, features a 4K trail run on the "Pumpkin Loop" through Carolina North Forest. It starts at 5 p.m. Saturday near the CNF's entrance.

Awards go to top finishers, as well as to those wearing the best costumes.

The run costs $25 per entrant. Space is limited and proceeds benefit the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA's We Build People Campaign.

Runners have plenty of race choices this weekend

The sound of the first footsteps on the course will be heard about 6 a.m. Saturday on a big day of running in the Triangle.

The early start on an April morning comes because the runners have a long way to go in the Umstead 100-Mile Endurance Run at Umstead Park. The field is full, but you can always cheer on the competitors.

Below is a look at some of the area's other runing events this weekend and next. Find more events in a variety of sports in the Play! Recreational Sports Calendar.

Keep those running shoes laced up for a busy schedule

The weather is turning colder, but around the Triangle fall - and even winter - will provide great days for running in road races and cross country events.

Two of the Triangle’s bigger events on a very full fall schedule (a list is below) take place over the next two weeks, with the City of Oaks Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon on Nov. 7 and the Old Reliable Run on Nov. 14.

Nov. 7 also is World Run Day.

Carrboro and Raleigh runners take top honors in Raleigh Rocks Half Marathon

The breezy made for a chilly morning, but the runners and the bands
turned out anyway for the third annual Bank of America Raleigh Rocks
Half Marathon http://www.ncraces.com/ on Saturday.

Iyer and Bowler run to victories in Raleigh's 28th Run for the Oaks

A threat of rain failed to keep more than 600 runners and walkers from
turning out for the 28th annual Run for the Oaks on Saturday in
downtown Raleigh.

The race is put on by the Raleigh
Parks and Recreation Department to raise money to plant oak trees in
the city known as the “City of Oaks.”

N.C. State junior Srini Iyer, 20, of Raleigh covered the 5K

Moore, Liming run to WakeMed Cary Distance Festival 10K victories

A beautiful day, a record turnout and a fast field dominated by Raleigh's Joseph Moore highlighted Saturday's 15th annual WakeMed Cary Distance Festival, part of the Triangle's Second Empire Grand Prix Series.

A record field of 461 runners and walkers registered for the 10K and 5K
road races, which were held under a sunny sky with no wind and a
temperature in the mid 50s, race organizer Jim Young of Young &
Associates reported.

Moore, 26, covered the USA Track and Field-certified 10K course in 31
minutes, 16 seconds.
