Morrisville's Geomagic makes acquisition

Geomagic, the Morrisville company that makes software that helps companies create 3-D digital models, has acquired the 3D design and haptic business units of Sensable Technology.

Terms of the deal, announced Thursday, were not released.

Geomagic is acquiring a hardware platform, modeling software and a number of patents from Sensable, which is based in Wilmington, Mass.

Those Sensable employees who work for the businesses will be offered jobs with Geomagic and the units will continue to operate out of offices in Wilmington.

Geomagic declined to say how many employees work for the Sensable business units being acquired.

The company will have more than 100 employees after the Sensable acquisition, said Rachael Dalton-Taggart, Geomagic's director of marketing communications.
