Ward out with groin injury

Canes goaltender Cam Ward, who left Sunday's game against Anaheim after the first period, has a groin injury that will sideline him for a few games.

General manager Jim Rutherford said today that Justin Peters would be called up from the Albany River Rats (AHL) as a backup to Michael Leighton.

Ward may miss the games against Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington at the RBC Center.

Leighton took over for Ward against the Ducks and was the loser in the Canes' 4-1 defeat.

Peters is 3-7-2 with the Albany River Rats (AHL) with a 2.79 GAA and .911 save percentage.

Justin Peters is called up !!

Good for him...and if he does get to play...hopefully he'll show that there is something good trying to show it's self up in Albany...Go Rats !!! hehehe

BIG opportunity for Leighton

I would absolutely love to see Leighton use this opportunity to show off the skill level he demonstrated last year as the best tender in the AHL. Mike ... just relax, and have a blast starting the next few games. Make Cam earn his spot back !

Not rocket science

rmmeli, come on, it was not like everyone could not figure it out. He left with no contact or apparent injury. They come out and say "lower body" = groin. Chip, thanks for giving the specifics.

I believe he was being

I believe he was being sarcastic...

Ouch

Ouch, for both Ward and the team. Lookl like we'll be seeing Leighton a bit more over the next few games.

Wait a minute.....

Surely you mean that Ward has a "lower body injury". By telling the rest of the NHL what his injury is you are targetting him for the rest of the season.....
