COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward, who was taken to a hospital Saturday after being injured during the game with the Columbus Blue Jackets, received stitches and is expected to return to Raleigh on Sunday.
Ward suffered a laceration to his left leg in the first period when hit by the skate of the Jackets' Rick Nash. The injury was called "significant" by Canes coach Paul Maurice and Ward's return is not known.
Team officials said that Ward was in stable condition.

Not so fast is right.
Sun, 11/08/2009 - 13:40 — HockeydogIf that skate sliced a tendon or did significant damage to a muscle he could be out for a long time. The way he needed assistance off the ice and the fact that he's being held in hospital are not good signs.
Not so fast...
Sun, 11/08/2009 - 00:17 — AN0NYM0USYou may not want to exhale just yet. He could be out months. Depending on the location and nature of the injury, it could even be a season ending injury!
Cam Ward's Injury
Sun, 11/08/2009 - 00:58 — abramsdougInjuries to the inner leg can be quite serious and particularly so for athletes in full body contact sports. We don't have any significant information about the nature of the injury; but we all saw the speed at which contact was made and the amount of blood. In the meantime, all our thoughts and prayers go out to Cam Ward and his family.
return
Sat, 11/07/2009 - 23:22 — procellaeI don't think we will be playing for a few games. That means one thing: Leighton!
This is why we wanted a competent backup goalie. Were people not saying, "What will happen is Ward is injured" during the offseason? I admit that I was in the group of people that thought this wouldn't happen.
Whew !!!
Sat, 11/07/2009 - 23:15 — esteban1949well at least it wasn't a ligament, or deep muscle cut. So there just might be a silver lining yet ....Rest well everyone
