Add sandwich designer to Hurricanes forward Scott Walker’s resume.
Walker will appear at the Harris Teeter in Cary’s Cresent Commons shopping center on Wednesday to introduce his new creation, “The Walker 24,” a roast beef sub on wheat bread with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard, salt and pepper.
Harris Teeter is a major sponsor of the Canes (remember, the name was glued to the base of the Eric Staal bobblehead giveaway last month).
Walker will sign autographs for an hour starting at 5 p.m. The sub sells for $3.99, but you’ll want to bring something else for him to sign.
It’s the first of three sandwiches created by members of the Hurricanes. They’ll be sold at all Triangle-area Harris Teeters. Defenseman Wade Brookbank and forward Ryan Bayda will also join sandwich-designing club later this season.

And If
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 15:16 — esteban1949The canes would pass the puck as well as they pass gas...gee we'd have as many wins as Boston has...or darn close to it...right ??
Go Florida Everblades !!! whoops...sorry...gas !!! hehehe
I heard the initial sandwich was a Laviolette Sub...
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 09:52 — wylde4canes...It never saw the light of day because one day it was roast beef, swiss and onions on rye, and then the next day he put in olives instead of onions, then the next day he pulled swiss in favor of provolone, then he decided to switch the bread to wheat, then............
Jim Rutherford made a sub too, only problem is the meat was leftover from a sub he made two years ago.......
I kid, I kid!
Go Canes!
a got a million of em
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 14:51 — wylde4canesJoe Vasicekhad one, it was a foot long sub with nothing but lettuce on it, big but no substance.
Cam Wards sandwich is called "glove side high", it has swiss cheese and balogna.
My favorite one of all is the Eric Staal special, it is a combo with the works, but it is only available on certain days and no one can figure out which days it will be available.
This is not a new promotion, either. Back in the day Keith Primeau had a sandwhich, it was decent but a little pricey. However you could trade it in for a much better sandwich that did not cost as much!
Wylde will be here through
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 16:02 — wjcampWylde will be here through the weekend. Don't forget to tip your wait staff.
thank you thank you...
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 16:23 — wylde4canes.....be sure to try the veal!
It was also delayed because...
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 13:07 — wxray1One Deli attendant dropped a try of meat on her foot and broke it, putting her on the IR.
The other attendant cut his finger badly, and was also unavailable for the roll out.
And for good measure, the store manager slipped and fell and tore his shoulder. He wasn't comfortable doing the roll out on pain killers.
<sorry> :-)
Don't be sorry
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 13:54 — caniacgirl30Don't be sorry-that's grade A material right there. This blog is almost always gloom and doom so it's nice to have some humor on it-even if it is a little sarcasm at the team's expense. :)
rofl
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 12:16 — wjcampNow that's funny stuff.
Harris Teeter didn't create
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 21:05 — FuquayCaniacHarris Teeter didn't create the sandwich for Walker, he created it, probably his favorite combination.
I agree the Walker 24 looks a bit on the tame side, regardless of who is was to prepresent.
Ok i see...
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 22:24 — esteban1949His combinaton is ok...just looks a wee bit thin...
Go Canes !!
Gee will
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 18:16 — esteban1949Chad LaRose get a shot at this ?? I like the combination walker has...but still ...hey i got and idea...how about The coach create the Mighty Mo...but just how much bologna will he want to use ? hmmmm...i guess it's better than fried green tomatoes isn't it ???
esteban has to laugh as while this is a great promo thing...but wouldn't have been better if Walker made and donated say 150 of those things to say a soup kitchen or homeless shelter ?
Go Canes !!!
Yeah, fun stuff!
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 17:20 — wxray1I think it is a fun story. So much gnashing of teeth here. Nice to have something light.
I kind of like his choices in ingredients.
But, I'm sure people won't be happy unless Brookbank makes his sandwich out of jalepenos, ice chips, blood and spit. Hmmm, tasty!
Delicious
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 18:10 — caniacgirl30I love the idea-it's a great way to market the game to people who aren't currently fans (and to those of us who are!) The Brookbank ingredients cracked me up I have to admit! I honestly hope his is a little more outrageous, although they probably have to keep it tame to appeal to more people.
Whats wrong with this story?
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 16:31 — ncsurveygirlWhats wrong with this story? Now I might be more inclined to go to Harris Teeter over Lowes. This kind of stuff is useless info, but its still fun to know what the players are up to around town.
Sandwich
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 16:02 — MichaelCFI'm speaking for all the carnivores out there, but this looks more like a snack instead of a sandwich. When I think of a sandwich for Walker, I would envision a meatier, and spicier sandwich to match his persona. This looks more like a Cam Ward sandwich, the type he would have eaten during the time he lost all that weight.
Where's the beef?
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 16:01 — xpukguyGood to see this is the kind of hard-hitting, news-breaking coverage we expect from the N&O. The Charlotte sports editor must lay at night quaking that his reporters will be scooped by 99.9 or another media outlet. Oh, my mistake, no one else tries to break a Canes story.
sponsor support
Tue, 01/13/2009 - 15:07 — SubwayScoundrelNice to see a sponsor support the Canes. That is why it is news. Canes fans should support the sponsors or they will leave and it means ticket prices go higher and everything else. Nice to see HT go beyond signs, cmmericals and in-game promos.
Now just go to Moe's, buy a John Deere, ask for GSK drugs from your doctor, buy glasses at Eye Care associates, move with Excel, sell a house through Remax/Linda Craft and look at BCBH when insurance sign up time comes and of course, Bank with the mothership--RBC Bank.
Really?
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 18:27 — richardfocPeople complain about not enough stuff being posted and now people complain about too much being posted. Some folks will never be happy I guess.
sandwich
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 15:38 — louis12580Nice honor, but considering Scott's on ice persona this is a bit tame. Should maybe have some spicy pepper sauce added. Something to match his fiery disposition. Ever notice the glare when he's upset at an opponent?
ditto
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 17:17 — asbrooksThe first thing that came to mind when I read what is on the sandwich was 'boring'.... That's not a Walker sandwich! Add some spice!
