The captain wants to play, play, play

Bookmark and Share

Three games, four nights. That's stressful for any NHL player, much less one who's 38 and coming off two knee surgeries.

But Canes captain Rod Brind'Amour said he's ready for it and wants it. After tonight's opener against Florida, the Canes are at Tampa Bay tomorrow night and then back home Monday for the Detroit Red Wings.

"I'm here to play," Brind'Amour said today. "I told (coach Peter Laviolette) to just play me like he normally would. Hopefully I'll be good enough that he wants to keep putting me out there."

Brind'Amour missed the last 22 games last season after reconstructive knee surgery and then had additional surgery last month to repair a cartilage tear.

While he wants to play major minutes, Brind'Amour said he realizes he must be cautious.

"I don't feel I'm where I want to be but I need to get there," he said. "The only way to do that is to get out there and do your thing.

"Once you get out there ... and it depends on how the game is going, too, you have to block everything out and go play. That's what I'm going to try to do. My game is not where I want it to be and I have to get it there fast."

Laviolette said he would monitor Brind'Amour's minutes and there is concern about the knee.

"I think you're always concerned," he said. "He's coming major (reconstruction) and he didn't get a chance to play in training camp. It's something we'll keep an eye on.

"He doesn't have to play 25 minutes to be a great player for us. We've got good depth at his position and a lot of guys who can play in a lot of different situations."

The season hasn't even

The season hasn't even started and you've lost hope? Maybe you should switch to something else.

Oh Ye Of Little Faith !!!

The captain while to some a old fossile that has been " surgically rebuilt" ike a 57 chevy...but trust Him and the coach...He knows and understands his limitations...and hopefully won't do something to silly like get one for the "gipper" this soon in the season...but all we can do is hope...and pray for those fans who are on that persuation...that maybe...just maybe...this wil be our year...

Go Canes, Rats & Chiefs !!

You can also look at it this way: 3 games in 7 days. Or 4 games in 9 days. That should make Roddy feel better.

We're screwed? come down off

We're screwed? come down off the ledge there. Are you proposing we forfeit all 82 games? Come on, you've got to be kidding me.

The coach has indicated caution with our Captain who played all of 15 minutes of one game in 6 preseason games. He had knee surgery and they want to be careful. Rod went down on Valentines day last season, and I didn't see anyone folding tents and giving up. Get a freaking grip.

I think those who have 'lost hope' already usually are the ones who found a way to become fans when things looked good in 05-06. Frankly, I think the Canes can do without fans that have "lost hope" on Game One of the new season. They need fans like that like they need a whole in the head. It takes 23 guys. Not just one, and our Captain will tell you that all day everyday.

See the rest of you at the rink tonight- Go Canes!

We're screwed. I've lost

We're screwed. I've lost hope already. Maybe 09-10 will be our year.

Wow, you're very

Wow, you're very optimistic!  You actually believe we'll have a team here in 09/10?

Wow.  Puck hasn't even

Wow.  Puck hasn't even dropped yet...

Where is my boy....

....with the O No we suck again post?

The puck aint even dropped yet. No one gave the leafs a chance at winning last night and they looked pretty solid in doing so.  Wait and see before you step up to the ledge.
