Rookie center Brandon Sutter won't be playing against his father's team again this week when the New Jersey Devils face the Canes.
Sutter has been sent to the Albany River Rats (AHL). Sutter, 20, netted three goals and earned an assist in seven games during a conditioning stint with Albany from Feb. 25-March 9.
Sutter, who was 19 when the season began, could not be sent down to the AHL until his junior team's season was finished. The Red Deer Rebels' WHL season ended Sunday.
Sutter's father, Brent, is the coach of the Devils.

Move will pay off
Tue, 03/17/2009 - 16:42 — Hockeydogin the long run. He'll get a ton of ice time until the Rat's season ends. Then he can relax this summer and hit the weights. He went from Juniors to Worlds to Canes camp last year. That is no way for a young player to develop physically, although it will sure help from an experience level. He could hopefully put on about 20 lbs of lean body weight and be ready to make a bigger impact next season.
I wonder why he's up and
Mon, 03/16/2009 - 18:07 — caneshockeyfanI wonder why he's up and down so much. It looks to me like he has the most hockey sense of the RiverCanes. Maybe it's just a size thing with the 4th line needing to be more physical? That would make sense. At any rate, I'm a fan of his game.
Yes
