Canes defenseman Dennis Seidenberg has been activated off injured reserve and will be in the lineup Thursday for the Philadelphia Flyers game.
The Hurricanes also announced today that defenseman Anton Babchuk has been placed on injured reserve. Babchuk suffered an elbow injury in the Canes' game Sunday against Washington.
Seidenberg leads all Hurricanes defensemen and is fifth on the team with 13 points (2 goals, 11assists) in 24 games. He ranks second on the team in average ice time (24:06 per game.)

phew
Thu, 12/11/2008 - 22:07 — Nico37I don't wish injury on anyone. That said...I cross my fingers IR eventually becomes LTIR.
Oh, and irbefan - what V is pointing out is that Chip's posts don't provide any insight beyond what can be found in a team press release.
You're welcome.
The good news: I haven't
Thu, 12/11/2008 - 13:50 — ctillThe good news: I haven't seen any indication that Babchuk has attitude problems this season. I agree that Mo is likely to tell the D-men to play a more conservative game... hopefully reducing the number of times Babchuk gets caught out of position. Meanwhile, Rodney, Borer, Carson, and Conboy will keep the pressure on Babchuk to perform or else.
pressure
Thu, 12/11/2008 - 16:40 — HockeydogIf any of these guys really impress that could also give Rutherford something to think about regarding a trade for maybe a bigger body up front. But then again at this rate we still don't have enough blueliners !
Rutherford generally trades
Thu, 12/11/2008 - 17:49 — CanarseRutherford generally trades for budget players or players other teams don't want anymore. Many of them are guys that can't stay healthy. JR wants to blame Friesen, but most of these guys have shown they can't take the pounding of the NHL. Williams, Whitney, Kaberle, Ruutu, Stillman, etc. All these guys are players you can expect to be injured some of the season or more. The real surprise is when a player like Ruutu stays healthy.
I agree
Thu, 12/11/2008 - 13:06 — HockeydogBabchuk has looked a bit better under Maurice. I think the team is headed in the right direction. Once everyone is back, healthy and on the same page this team under Maurice will look pretty good. My gut says Rutherford will add a player to the mix via trade and that will be a final piece the team needs to hit the playoffs in style. Maybe get Recchi back from Tampa for a song since that team is imploding at a rapid rate.
Babchuk and the Hurricanes Defense in General
Wed, 12/10/2008 - 17:40 — abramsdougI think it is unfortunate that Babchuk is injured. I felt he was making significant progress in his play. Also, I believe Babchuk will benefit from the coaching change. He is still a young player and under the Laviolette system he was left out to dry far too often. I personally think Babchuk has played well, if certainly not 100% error free. He is -6. Seidenberg is -4. Seidenberg has been playing quite well before his injury. Young defense men will always make some mistakes; but both Babchuk and Seidenberg for the most part have avoided killing the team with their mistakes. I also am pleased that Maurice has Conboy, Borer, and Carson in the line-up. Clearly, the defense is a work in progress; and despite numerous injuries, the defense is taking shape. These players also add intensity, size, and reach to the defense. When Gleason and Wallin return, and as the team adjusts to Maurice's system, we'll have a better idea of Babchuk's development and the development of the young defense men. I already prefer what I am seeing to the scatter shot and disorganized approach I saw for two and a quarter seasons under Laviolette.
*sigh*
